We have learned nothing.

Aging, stocky midfielder who has never played in the PL and will be on huge wages… probably on a four year contract.

It could go well but there’s more reasons why it wouldn’t.

And if it doesn’t, yet again we’re stuck with a player we can’t get rid of.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We are all aging Winston. He is only 30 so that isn’t a concern. If he was 34/35 it would be daft.

Simon Stone is in my opinion the most reliable journalist there is along with David Ornstein. If he says 60m plus 10m in pounds then that's what it will be.

Good player for us and a great deal for Madrid.

It's definitely a risk... If he give us 3 good years, then worth if not, then its more money down the pisser...

Should be used to it by now

I think it is a concern.

A player of his build, with no PL experience, is surely likely to struggle more than a younger option.

He will have no re-sale value, whether it’s a successful transfer or not.

Doesn't matter either way... All that matters is he stays fit and performs...

Athletic also saying £70m and he's going to be on 375k a week.

Crazy crazy numbers and a sure sign of our desperation. But he is an outstanding player tbf. Just slight worry about the age and the coming for the money factor.

You have to look at the transfer in the context of the wider plan.

Casemiro this window. Then when Barça drop down to the EL at the knockout phase, in true El Clasico style, Ronaldo, Casemiro and Varane step up, smash them, and knock them out of Europe early.

Barça can’t absorb the loss of revenue, go bust, FDJ’s contract is cancelled, and United pick him up for free next summer.

It’s solid business

At this point I don't think it matters where they are from. Out signings from every country flop these days. 😂

We do have a truly wretched record with South American players though. Nobody can deny it. Let's hope we finally buck the trend.

Could be worse... we could be paying Sanch 350k a week for doing sweet FA... Oh wait we are

Not the Brazilian midfielder I wanted but I can't argue too much with this considering the midfield has needed somebody positionally disciplined and intelligent and somebody very good at anticipating ball and off ball movement.

That being said though, I'd have still spent the money differently, bringing somebody cheaper with a similar profile to Casemiro in and another player who could receive the ball with his back to goal, play on the turn and take responsibility in build up.

Let's just hope he's still good at what he does after being at United for a few months.

Madrid haven't put up much of a fight. Frustrating really as this signing could have been done 5 weeks ago and we might not be bottom of the PL after 2 games. In fact I'm sure we'd have got at least 1 win out of the first two with a world class DM in the team.

The FDJ saga has been very damaging.

I think it's been a smooth transfer as all parties are winning here. Real get good money for a player who has served them well. United get a much needed DM. Casemiro gets a new experience and good terms.

I wonder if there was any negotiation with the deal and we just drove in with a truck full of cash and Madrid gladly bit of our hand...

Not that I'm complaining giving our teams negotiation skills...

The fee is massive for his age but he's a great player. I think the concerns about him not playing in the PL are valid but he's a world class defensive midfielder who breaks up play and passes the ball on. I mean does it matter which league you do this in?

He will allow United to actually have a couple of midfielders who can be further forward without as much risk. This is the best thing that could happen to Fernandes and even Eriksen. You could potentially play both of them ahead of him, removing the awful Fred from the first team. Changes the whole dynamic and gets two creative players on the ball who can also score goals.

For me that position was your most important signing and Casemiro does it better than FDJ for example.

They didn't put up much of a fight as they had a young player who covered him and just signed another and then made £60m on a thirty year old. Doesn't mean he isn't a top player.

In principle I will be very pleased.
But it's like looking at restaurants menus. Ah 40 euros, that's expensive, there's one here at 20 euros, that's better. But it might not we worth it on either, or worth it on one of them.
ie, we won't know until he has played a few games.

I think there was some negotiation. Real wanted 60 million euros, rising to 70 million euros. But United insisted on paying £60 million, rising to £70 million. We drive a hard bargain

I reckon Casemiro is only coming so that he can play with Ronaldo.👍
