VAR & weekend results

Tend to agree on “Scottish VAR”. Actually in favour of VAR in principle, but it’s getting used by the same incompetent (being generous) tools officiating our game, so my expectations for it up here were always low. At best it’s a lottery … being cynical, it just gives them more options to arrive at the outcome they want.

Aye, that rumoured fee for JJ was lower than I expected, altho when I’d read Monza were seemingly the club leading the chase for him I’m not too surprised it isn’t £10m+. Like you say, been a good signing, but has been off it for a while … bar his WC exploits.

JJ has done reasonably well and had Kent in his back pocket but he was utterly dreadful in the Champions League. Quite happy if he goes.

Rest of the season is gonna play out comfortably, leagues in the bag

Looks like the Seville calculators were out by Celtic for their valuations of JJ, folk on here were expecting 15/20m. Can’t imagine being shown up in the Old Firm would’ve had that much of an impact

by this seasons form i thought 10 was a push, but when he had a good world cup i thought it would bump his price up.

if he wants to go to a club that are 15th in serie A then fair play to him.

I was expecting £12m for Jura tbh, strange one. Problem is he's late 20s now so no re-sale value.

twas interesting mate, preseason the concern was taylor in champions league and not about JJ, i thought the latter was rotten tbh and i expect the fact we are willing to sell for 7 million shows Ange thinks similarly.

I've said it from the start - it gives them two chances to get it wrong.

Obviously I think it was a penalty yesterday but then I would. No doubt we'll see a VAR intervention soon that will give one like it. And that's the problem as explained in the op.

We’re in a great position, but there’s a lot of football to be played yet. CCV is probably the single player I wouldn’t want to lose to injury … think that would seriously fook our defence.

when you look at the bernabei and o'riley penalties then you should want a penalty for that.

The lack of consistency can only come down to two things, one that there is not a shared understanding of the rules from our referees, and two, personal preference.

CCV is fckin incredible. Worry is he'll be wanting a move soon I think too. One more CL campaign and he'll be off

said it last season mate, he should have been POTY.

if you are a solid 8/10 minimum every single week then you have to be up there, i'd be a bit concerned for our defence without him.

I'm seein another united penalty shout for fletcher, not that there is a lot in it but comparisons to the one Colak got against hibs earlier in the season.

Sampdoria in for GG now as well. I was very scepticle of the big man but i think he is a terrific option to have, completely different to Kyogo but both offering good goal returns, not sure if selling is the right idea.

posted on 9/1/23

Aye he's just a total bully back there, has great pace aswell.

GG is a gutter tbh but can't blame him for wanting to start every week. If he did I reckon he'd get 30 at least for us. Just a tricky one given our set up and Ange's preference for Kyogo. Can't argue with the choice either, tough one. He's 28 now too GG. Would be a big loss though, agreed. Hard to come by players like him.

posted on 9/1/23

Aye, I think selling GG in this window is potentially a risk we don’t need to take. I’ll back Ange’s judgement on signings, but Cho (or whoever) could take long enough to settle. Tricky one.

he was top goal scorer in netherlands, then top goalscorer in Scotland.

he'll get goals, i wonder what the issue is, if its money or game time.

posted on 9/1/23

A bit of both I think, if he was starting every week he'd be alot happier and inclined to stay here I reckon but given his age he will want to be starting and making more money as it will be his last big move really

My understanding is that Cho isn’t happening as his club want a lot more than we’re prepared to bid and now other “higher” profile teams are sniffing around.

As to Postecoglou raising what I think are genuine concerns on the implementation of VAR (I’m still in favour of it mind), brushing him off as yet another tin foil hat paranoid is a silly, yet predictable mistake.

Firstly he’s talking from a position of strength in that it hasn’t really cost us domestically, but more importantly, had the Goldson incident happened at the other end of the park right after we’d equalised; all hell would have broken loose as it would be seen to have been a season title defining decision.

It certainly needs a far greater degree of clarity as to what constitutes a handball and the factors that determine that VAR gets involved.

i thought we topped the mainz bid and that they pulled out.

he looks decent but you never know with strikers, essentially we are selling a proven goalscorer and replacing him with the unknown.

A wee bit disappointed if jj and gg go but at the same time both are dispensable from the new players - jota ccv Abada hatate and kyogo are huge players and any would be a massive loss if any were to go right now. There’s an argument for freshening things up and keeping the hunger there. Quite confident in what Ange is doing.

I read a while ago there was a clause for jj which might explain a surprisingly low fee.

i think whats good is that we will at least double our money on most signings.

Kyogo - i would be shocked if we sold him for big money, i think he will be one that stays and then leaves quite quietly.

Jota - easily doubling our dosh there

CCV - samesies

O'Riley - samesies

Hatate - samesies

Maeda - might make a small profit

Haksabanovic - too early to say

johnson - too early to say

bernabei - he's a long term investment, which i'm shocked we would go for tbh, 3 million for someone not to be pushing first team is odd.

Not convinced he’s actually “proven” with us tbh. I expected a JVOH type of player and he’s nowhere near that. In so saying I’d rather we kept him until we find a suitable replacement.

finished top goalscorer despite not being a first choice and having an injury mate, i'd say thats pretty good.

might be where we were coming at initially though, you expected a JVOH and i expected a Kazim Richards

posted on 9/1/23

Looks like Iwata is physical and could fill any CCV void aswell

WHIT?

He may have played there 50% of the time but if tm is to be believed he's 5'8" so it is not happening here, surely?
