With the divers, wouldn't it make sense to have some start where her stuff was found and some further downstream at the furthest she might have gone, then work towards each other?

Her phone being on the bench makes people think this isn't an accident I believe.

If you simply fell into the river then your phone would most likely be on your person you'd assume.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When I take the dog for a run I'll leave my phone on the floor/bench somewhere to be fair in case it falls out of my pocket.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I bet you are in the tiny minority then.

Perhaps so. People do leave their phones down though and leave them if distracted.

Definitely not in the vast minority Welsh lad. Many people are rather careless with their phones these days. See it all the time.

id tend to agree with welshy here tbf.... I would think its strange to leave it on a bench through thinking it could fall out my pocket? the fact its a major talking point in regards to the investigation amongst the public suggest they also think the same.

Yeh, I don't see her walking far looking for the dog without going back to grab the phone. More likely she went in near the bench.

I wouldn't think it strange though to empty my pockets when running round a field with my dog. When taking mine to a field I usually leave his collar, lead, personal belongings in one place just in case they fall into long grass etc.

Yeh, he seems a bit affronted that he didn't find her. Why would info on alcohol make him search differently? That seems odd to me.

Where there's rivers there's usually pubs.

Panic mode perhaps setting off some anxiety could make people do things that others find illogical.

Don't forget she is a functioning alcoholic who had a pint of gin for breakfast. Not sure you should try and rationalise her decision making.

surely it's easier to just leave the dog behind than have to empty all your pocketd?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know how these things work in practice but yes I'd imagine so. I also imagine that to do so would require a lot of divers but I know nothing about this or how it was done.

Nah, don't think so. But I don't think she was in a clear frame of mind so seemingly "irrational" decisions like leaving a phone on the bench isn't that big of a shock - her family described her as having "brain fog".

I don't think anybody can disagree that it's been poorly handled. Even if foul play was involved (I've used Occam's Razor and think she probably did fall in the river and was swept away) the fact they let potential suspects, like her partner, go to the scene would make it far more difficult.

I could be wrong however and they're using an ingenious way to flush out their main suspect (probably her partner) by letting him hang himself on his own rope.

It's all very strange though. People have commented why all the focus on this case when people go missing everyday but my thinking is that this is a middle class, attractive, white lady that's gone missing so that makes it more 'attractive' for coverage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nothing to do with race.

It's the fact they have no clue where she has gone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely 'no clue where (s)he has gone' applies to every missing person though?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

She's not actually been found missing but she's not been found found either.

I thought I heard a bit ago that one of the divers said there was no way she'd fallen in? Could have been tabloid rubbish though.

I've thought this was all a bit strange for a while. From saying they think she fell in the river to these new comments about alcohol etc, the police seem keener to construct some sort of narrative round this than is usually the case.
