Basic salary for rail workers
Rail travel assistants - £33,310 - includes ticket collectors, guards and information staff
Rail construction and maintenance operatives - £34,998 - they lay and repair tracks
Rail transport operatives - £48,750 - includes signallers and drivers' assistants
Train and tram drivers - £59,189
Add in a decent pension and numerous other perks it's hard to see the workers gaining much public sympathy compared to nurses and carers etc.

You go drive a train at 100 mph with no where to go if something happens
Then got drive a bus at 50mph
----------------------------------------------------------------------
or look at it as drive it at 100mph on a road that has no real other traffic, or inconsistencies you see on a road. no lane changes, lights that the train auto stops for and you get a perfect forecast of whats ahead.
Oh and dont have to deal with passengers. For me the bus driver has to do the job of conductor and driver and his job has more stress and pressure due to the randomness and inconsistency in the route in comparison.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A perfect forecast on what’s ahead?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yes, there is a train 15mins ahead goign at this speed, wil stop here, here and here for 5mins, then stop at this light for so so mins.
A bus driver literally figures it out and adjusts as he goes, there is far far more unpredictability between the rail and road.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bit like the bus driver who hit a fecking bridge causing train delays yesterday meaning I got stuck in London Waterloo for hours?

The only way to get a good raise is to do the following things
1. Get a new job
2. Threaten to quit (nicely of course)
3. Strike
If the train staff got 4% I've no qualms with them striking.
4% is a pay cut.

The FA should hold it at Goodison Park

They should play the Cup Final at OT.
Split it down the middle. Make City the home team. Give them the home dressingroom and their fans the Stretford End. Game on.
