A nation where 95% of the population is a permanently landless class.
A permanently landless class, packed into urban enclaves because almost all the land is owned by their feudal lords.
And to top it all off, the same population is also tasked with singing a song of tribute to the chief feudal lord.
Nothing about this is normal. Certainly not in a democratic country.

Everything he has written has an impact on the day to day lives of many people. As I said before, you don't get to decide how people feel but as we all know that's a typical right wing trait.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go on. Explain. How do the Royals as land owners affect our day to day lives. Ceretainly doesn affect mine other than looking out of my window and knowing that I dont own the countryside i can see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This country has everything we'd need to be a net agricultural producer. Reliable rainfall and temperate weather. Fertile soils. Decent bulk transport links, no more than 5000 miles away from all the major world markets.
Everyone around us is an agricultural superpower in their own right. France, Germany, Russia, Poland....even tiny countries like Denmark and the Netherlands.
Not to mention other countries further afield like Australia, USA and New Zealand that value wider access to land resources.
It's about time we lived in a country where you don't have to be a millionaire to pass a scrap of agricultural land down to your kids and grandkids. Or a house for that matter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That is total nonesense!
Our agricultural productivity has little to do with land ownership and much more to do with market forces, economies of scale and subsidies.

Fair enough, wealth disparity is a huge problem in society. I do feel like the Royals are useful figureheads for the less fortunate to target, though. Do we actually believe that in a 'normal' democracy (ignoring that statement is problematic and there's still a fair few other monarchies around) those issues would be resolved? That it wouldn't just be State owned land controlled by a Federal government.. and for the same problems to exist just with different names attached.
I think what bugs me about the response to this thread (though the thread itself I don't agree with) is the idea that you're being somehow forced to sing or something. You can not sing the anthem (I don't) without booing it. It's a cop out to just say it's all silly or whatever as an excuse for loudly booing the anthem. It's symbolic of national pride for most people, they're not actually expecting God to protect the monarch. It would be more instructive if scousers on here could explain why they don't respect the values of the country they live in.

Yeah I think you're just creating things and making it more than it is.
It's simple. The people of city feel let down by those in power both historically and currently and as is their right, they demonstrated this and will continue to do so whether those who are and have been in better situations like it or not. That's all. You cannot tell people how to feel, especially when you have not experienced what they feel and historic plots against them, like the 'managed decline' of the city and the Hillsborough cover up, by the people in power, the very people you wish them to share and respect values of.

If you burn pound notes it’s treason, so I think booing the national anthem most certainly is.
