Appleton... you've gone early on the new manager discussion. Bold.
DS and JT did OK - they should not be judged on the result of their efforts. I note of the 8 games they took charge of - we lost 3 (to Man City, Liverpool and Fulham). We drew 3... Everton, Leeds and Newcastle (which I thought was a very good result, despite the performance being somewhat restricted) and we beat Wolves and West Ham (who I thought we should beat).
We should have beaten Everton too, let's face it, but they turned up second half and we really didn't.
So they were par for the course. I wouldn't be surprised if they were given the job. They have experience and they got to know the players.
I would prefer a totally fresh start (including manager).
Carrick is a gamble. A bit like Gerrard, Lampard, even Rooney in the US. Great players, that don't always make good managers and coaches. Gerrard could do no wrong north of the border. Lampard at Derby - generally excellent and even when restricted by a transfer embargo at Chelsea did well.
I would go for someone like... (finger in the air, who might be available and willing...) Benitez... Vieira would be an excellent appointment, given the work he did at Palace. Hasenhuttl got a raw deal at Southampton.
Of those, I think Vieira would inspire, still be relatively fresh and new to the way of things, but also has a strong personality that the club needs right now. It needs a character and a spark. All due respect to DS and JT - they don't appear to have that, from what I saw in the last 7 weeks or so.
Another experienced option... but not overly inspiring... Chris Wilder. Knows the league inside out. Quite outspoken and a firm character again... but I can't say his pedigree is what this club typically looks for...
Food for thought!
Well going early might take the conversation away from other areas YWF so I thought why not ( also I have the afternoon off and fence painting is out of the question after a damp morning)….
I think that for me DS & JT don’t excite me and make me think wow I cannot wait to see what they can bring onto the pitch with a revamped squad.
Viera is an interesting call, did ok at Palace but ended in a rut that he couldn’t get out of, he has a good reputation in the game so that would bode well for loan players etc….. but again would he want to drop into the Championship and face the challenge of taking us back up?
I can see it working and he may come, we are still an attractive club and most mangers ( apart from the top echelon ones) would be interested.

Chris Wilder = Dean Smith but with balls!!!!
It’s a no from this jury 😂
Good discussion.
In respect of DS, JT and CS, they didn’t really have enough time to make a really positive impact. However, Smith got Villa promoted and if I remember correctly did well at Brentford, so I wouldn’t entirely rule him out.
Carrick seems to have exceeded expectations at Middlesbrough, although they fell away at the end. I don’t know if they were affected by injuries to key players though. He also did a pretty reasonable job at Old Trafford I seem to recall; as suggested, he is likely to have plenty of contacts in the right places.
So it’s a six and two threes from me!
Wouldn’t rule out the current team; but also think Carrick would be a positive initiative.
Not sure about Vieira - started well enough but fell off a cliff at Christmas. Defensively sound but possibly lacking in the attacking environment.
Apparently MON was reported to have been interested in the interim position!
Is Bielsa still available?
Bielsa is now Uruguay manager.
No idea who I want to be honest, just got a gut feeling Top is going to give it to Dean Smith.
Potter if we could in any way swing it, highly unlikely but so was Winning the League.
Otherwise and this will make you laugh.
Being as we all know Rudkin ( assuming he is the guilty party ) is less likely to get the boot than we are of winning the League again I'd change the Organisation in the Club.
Make Rudkin King Power Sporting Director as he is already involved in the other areas of the King Power Group.
The I'd Bring Pearson back, not as Manager but as 'Head of Football' , DOF if you like.
This would be to rebuild the Back Room of Club so readily destroyed by Rodgers, build the Team he had created during his reign when he sorted us out before.
Then we could go for a younger Hungry Manager with Fresh Ideas and a clean broom for the Playing side.
That gives him Pearson between the Club and the Manager as someone already respected by the Club and being able to advise the Manager from his own experience.
Just a thought
PS - Dean Smith - Hell NO!!!
Yeah - not surprised you’ve gone for Pearson there in the slightest

It's what the Club needs right now
I like the idea of getting rid of Rudkin first, installing a new DoF and then get a new manager in.
Pearson as DoF is intriguing, not convinced he is DoF material but he certainly knows the club. Would also be able to quickly resolve any arguments with the new manager.
As for said manager, Deano might be OK in the Championship, not sure he showed enough for me. Has the advantage that he's already been involved.
Carrick may be worth a punt, but why would he leave Boro for a basket case like us?
Gerrard no.
Viera no.
Wilder no.
Hassenhutl maybe.
Lampard hell no.
Potter perfect but fat chance once Madders took the peno against Everton.
Benitez preferably not, can't see him dropping down to our level anyway. And do you want to get bored by the football?
MON no, don't ruin your reputation.
Bielsa yes please shame he's spoken for. Might be a bit chaotic but what a ride.

DOF is maybe not the right term which is why I mentioned 'Head of Football' , an experienced Football Man between the Club and Manager able to advise both sides.

That’s kind of what a director of football is really. Irrespective - he’s shown absolutely nothing at Bristol, Derby or OH to suggest he can repeat the success he had here anywhere else. Now I like Pearson but he gets an awful lot of credit for the non football side (recruitment, sports science etc). The way some describe him is almost as if he single handedly rebuilt the club. A lot of the infrastructure was put in place by the King Power, advised by Terry Robinson, and of course Pearson had an incredible back room team
Where is Steve Walsh these days. He would make a better DoF even though he wasn’t successful at Everton. Has anyone been?!!
As for the manager, I’d prefer to see a young up and coming a manger from the championship or league 1 to take us forward. I don’t know enough to put forward suggestions but that type of appointment or a manager from Europe who’s mixing it up is always preferred for me than a top coach that’s on his way out like Benitez.
Would I take Dean Smith? It wouldn’t inspire me and I worry it needs a full shake up but I don’t think it’s the worst appointment ever. But if o had the choice it would be a no.
