Transfer Update - What’s next?

So Spurs have a net spend of over 100m this summer?

posted on 29/7/23

Although the Kane transfer throws a spanner in the works in gives the club no excuse not to buy a CB or two.

I like your valuations but fear we will have to accept less for Ndombele. Also, seeing as Dier has a year left on his contract, he should also be on the sale list too.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes but we spent faaaack all in January, so it’s a net spend of £122.6m over 2 windows - £61.3m per window, which is less than Havertz on his own

We paid Sporting £5m in January for Porro and rest this window.

OP

Decent article, but I am beyond caring now. The CBs issue is a shambles, as is the Kane is he staying or is he going.

I am personally just looking forward to the season now, whatever happens in the transfer market, I think Spurs will have a decent season.

The midfield really excites me now. Maddison looks a bargain, Bissouma looks to have now settled, Lo Celso has really looked good pre season, the emerging talent of Sarr, and of course Bentancur still to come back in. Looks very tasty. Certainly an upgrade on what was for most of last season PEH and Skipp.

Up front I think Spurs will be fine, even if Kane goes, Solomon looks decent, Richie will be the main man, and I am certain he can deliver. Obviously not in Kane numbers, but enough, if some of the others contribute to make a big difference.

The key is at the back, if no new CBs are purchased, just keep the ball as far away from the back four as possible. The goals up the other end, should outweigh any mistakes from the current defence hopefully.

The important thing is to attack, it is Spurs strength, so use it as much as possible.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not tight, just short sighted and lacks any sort of strategy, loves pressing the eject button on managers and recently has a fetish for hiring people who can’t actually do their role for the club due to legal or contractual stipulations

Don’t forget the January before that. Both Bentancur and Kulu were loan deals that we’ve paid off since.

Effectively every summer our net spend is increased by our Jan spending. So it always looks like we spend more than we do, we just never spend in Jan

posted on 29/7/23

Sorry, I'm not having that Porro and Kulu money added to this pot. We've all factored them into previous window money so I'm not added them in here to massage the figures.

Let's be real here.

We've spent the sum total of £57m which is dwarfed by even the likes of Aston Villa now. We've not touched a defence that needed major surgery and all the while we have the most expensive tickets in the league, after another price hike this summer.

Levy is taking everyone for a ride. We're fecked until he goes. It's that simple.

I’m certain we will sign a CB - the issue is I fully expect that it will be so late in the window that the new CB won’t even be playing until about 5 games in

Kane to leave on deadline day, with a last minute deal to bring Lenglet in on a permanent. And that'll conclude our business.

I'm close to apathy now. I don't think I've ever felt such distance from the club.

Kulu was a loan, Bentancur we paid £18m up front.

You are correct though with the rest. People saying we’ve spent £122m this summer, we have but £30m of that was earmarked 18 months prior when we initially loaned Kulu and £40m was the Porro deal we agreed in Jan. The summer before, £50m of our net spend was the Romero payment that we were obligated to make after signing him the summer before.

We just spread all this cost out and then depending on what camp you fall in with regards to the owners you can just present it how you want.

Bottom line is we spend far less than Chelsea and Arsenal

posted on 29/7/23

Unfortunately Philspur, I think you’re right.

There are no excuses to not bring in at least one top level CB.

Other fans may question our net spend but we all know Levy massages figures with loan deals.

Even factoring in players we signed 18 months ago into this summers spending (which is crazy) we could still realistically spend less than £100m net and transform the squad.

Mark my words, we will not finish is the top 8 unless the defence is dramatically improved and fast.

It's going to be Lenglet isn't it?!

If it is and we don't sign at least one of VDV or Tapsoba, I think I'm done. I'm not gonna back a team owned by someone who doesn't give a damn. I'll watch football but I think I might take a back seat from supporting us. I don't want to give that cuuuunt any more of my money and I think every fan should be doing the same.

All the while every other club in the top 10 us showing real ambition, it's making Levy seem more and more like Mike Ashley. Seriously, what's the point of hoping if there isn't any?

I honestly don’t think Levy does it on purpose, I think he is just completely incompetent and shouldn’t be making any football decisions, I’ve said it before but I reckon Chirpy could do better.

Levy should be running the commercial side, he is generally good at generating income. He should have faaack all to do with spending beyond confirming a budget and cutting cheques.

It really won't. I'm already mourning how terrible we are so I've already accepted it. It's those that are blindly backing the regime that will have the biggest meltdown when it inevitably collapses.
