But it's not like Pep is spending hours a day coaching Haaland on every conceivable situation, because he trusts his attacking skills... To paraphrase something Pep once said "It's my job to help you get the ball to the final third, then it's on you".

Main pluses for me were Hojlund and Mainoo. Glad that Hojlund got on the score sheet and made another after his horror show in the cup. That will do him the world of good.
Mainoo continues to impress. I love how calm and in control he is for a lad his age. I'd really like to see him playing alongside Cas with Bruno ahead of them. I think that they would give each other the confidence to push forwards safe in the knowledge that the other will cover and give us defensive stability when the opposition have the ball. Martinez back and playing in behind them should really help too.
The main downside was our defensive fragility and lack of control in midfield. We just get overrun at times. And our defending at set pieces is a joke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He really needs Cas next to him. Just to learn the position is enough for me. As Keane said yesterday, what he is tasked to do you won't find many midfielders his age executing well.
The manager killed him again yesterday playing Bruno and Eriksen next to him, it is criminal.

This. I was expecting Casimero to come on in the second. He was much needed: to help Mainoo deal Spurs’ midfield, and above all to deal with their airial threat. All their corners were dangerous, and all our corners were toothless.
People forget how bad Martinez and Casemiro were this season before they got injured. Thinking there will be a turnaround in our fortunes when they start games. Doubtful.

There’s another reason. The players who gives the ball away most of the times is Rashford, and every time he gives ball, he doesn’t track back to recover the ball or help the defense. Antony isn’t as talented or as quick, but when he plays, we look more balanced, and Dalot looks more dangerous going forward.

All players including Rasford must transition together as a group much tighter to create smaller spaces for the oppo to exploit. Every player knows what they should be doing when we lose the ball. Atm is clearly doesnt happen. We have to ask the coach, why?
And Uniteds problems are not all down to Rashford FFS.
What is down to Rashford is that most things (good and not so good) happen through him. Hes the most likely to make things happen in this team IF he gets it right or makes the right decisions. Its just moments right now but that is better than nothing. When he was scoring for fun last season after the WC he WAS making the right decisions. He was quicker and sharper, more dirct and more physical.
But just like all the other players, he doesnt atm, more often than not. But there is more chance of something happening good (or bad) when he has the ball. We saw that with both United goals last night.

Also, Mount wasn't playing as "an 8". Both he and Bruno were pressing high, leaving Casimiro totally exposed against the oncoming attack.
Him and Mainoo could be refreshing and we know Casi is pretty useful for a goal, we may also see more progression through the middle from Mainoo.
The club, the manager, the players, they're all the problem.
+++
Correct.
I don't doubt ETH tactical awareness, but it's his man management and ability to get his ideas across to the players that's the problem. Doing it an Ajax is one thing, when everyone is naturally working hard together, there isn't necessarily anyone who is considered or treated like a superstar and the focus on the team isn't quite as intense.
At Utd, everything is under scrutiny, ETH also feels too robotic and doesn't have it in him to gee up the players or really be able to get inside their heads and buy into his thought process. Doesn't make him a bad manager, but sometimes it just doesn't work out for you, and he just doesn't have that little bit of X factor that Klopp or Pep has (and few do)
There is a lot of pressure on these players, and rightly so, but you need a certain type of manager to be able to cope with that and inspire the players, and I'm not sure ETH has that in him

Casemiro wouldn’t be as exposed with Mainoo rather than Mount.

Our manager wants to play a number 8 in CM though. That's been clear by most of his team selections and the signings of Mount and Eriksen.
His system is the problem. ETH is the biggest problem. He sets up the team wrong and leaves us badly exposed in between the lines.

ETH isn't blameless, but these players had a good season under Ole, only to down tools, same with Jose and now ETH.
ETH being in charge of recruitment is frankly amateurish.
The club, the manager, the players, they're all the problem.

People forget how bad Martinez and Casemiro were this season before they got injured. Thinking there will be a turnaround in our fortunes when they start games. Doubtful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No they were not. Martinez was still injured and Casimero was left alone to deal with the opposition midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Exactly. A bit of a pointless post from Robb. Pretty sure that he has himself pointed out that we need two CM's that can defend. Netiher Cas nor Mainoo can do it on their own. But together they might and more so with a decent CB in behind them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Robb is just being his usual self. Casemiro was never once match fit at the start of the season due to the awful pre season where ETH stupidly decided not feature the starters very much.
We all know (apart from Robbsie) that Martinez was still playing through injury at that time.
