Must mean he’s pretty exceptional then really. Loyal too. I mean he does have the most appearances in the Premier League team of the season and in multiple positions too.

As said, we may as well close the thread.

What actually is funny is that ‘pass master’ Scholes, after 19 seasons, has less assists than our 25 year old right back

posted on 17/1/24

Scholes played in sides where assists came from other teammates too
Like multiple PL title winning Ryan Giggs and multiple PL title winning David Beckham

Ahh that’s the one. He was ‘running games’

posted on 17/1/24

Well he wasn’t running to Chelsea like Gerrard until LFC fans started burning his shirt

I do find it funny that some people think Gerrard didn’t join Chelsea because of a burned shirt

Let’s not forget Schole prowess in front of goal though tbf.

He just about hit double figures twice ever in19 seasons and 5 or less in 9 of them.

Look I’m not knocking Gerrard, he had a good engine on him, a pretty hard shot and liked diving into a tackle with gritted teeth, I just don’t see him as an elite level player like the other title winning ones listed in the OP

I’d put him in the same bracket as Barry, Speed etc

Some say he is now the best in PL history.

Another couple of years and it’ll be Europe.

It’s weird though because Scholes says Gerrard was better and that he couldn’t have done the things at Liverpool that Stevie did but that he could see no reason why Gerrard couldn’t do what he did at Utd.

He also said Gerrard was more of a match winner and far superior to him athletically but WTAF does he know anyway.

The only thing Paul Scholes is the best in Premier League history at is sucking his daughters toes.

I’ve read a lot of the comments and there’s been some good discussion.

But how has not even one person mentioned Emmanuel Petit?!

Best would probably be Lampard tbh. He had all the numbers, a lot of titles, can’t really argue with that.

Cesc should be mentioned more as well. He’s Top 5.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But Lampard played more as a no.10 than a CM. He usually had 2 hard working CM's in behind him.

I wouldn’t say I’m needy, just saying that Gerrard got in PL team of the year in all those positions because he is the most complete midfielder on the list, and therefore the best.

Might as well close the thread if we’re honest.

I think when you are talking about the quality of players we are discussing, and the fine margins between them, you can't really pick the one player that didn't actually win the PL title. Especially when his lasting legacy in that competition is a mistake that ultimately cost his team the title.

Scored all the goals in Istanbul, saved all the penalties and flew the plane over there if you believe some on here

It had nothing to do with Hamann understanding what was required in the midfield.

That's what he did. Same as Xavi. And he was instrumental in 11 PL titles.

If you’re a tabloid reading dullard then possibly.

Footballers get death threats all the time. It’s just a rumour made up by silly people.

He didn't have to score goals. We had forwards and wingers scoring plenty. What he had to do was control the tempo of the game and make those forward passes as the right time when there was space available. And he did that brilliantly. If you'd watched MOTD at the time you'd have frequently heard your men Hansen and Lawro waxing lyrical about him. Often dedicating segments of their analysis to Scholes throughout his career.
