From cruising to a little collapse here. Think it's going to be too little too late and show we probably needed another 40-50 runs but nice to show some fight here especially as they added another 40 this morning before we took a wicket.

exactly. well said.

it reminds me a little of the oval v aus in terms of how much stokes and england wants to win, although can't see the same thing happening. but as you say well done for making a contest of it, and good to see how much it means.

Yeah I'm not quite sure why we opened with Root. Stokes does like to do things differently to put batters off but still should have had Jimmy up top to keep things tight at the very least.

The ball is definitely doing enough where I don't think India would have chased much over 225 even with the first wicket partnership.

They're taking an interesting approach now and it will probably be a winning one by nudging themselves closer to the target. Although Jadeja has just bunted it straight to Bairstow!

Agree. I still think they will win, but they will crawl over the line.

another 70 runs would make it about 50/50 i reckon.
needed to set 280.

Its been an interesting chase. In the first 16 overs, Jaiswal and Rohit managed 10 boundaries and a six between them. In the following 43 overs, there has only been 1 boundary. England only managed 1 six and no fours in the last 30 odd overs of their innings too.

And just like that, Gill hits a 6. That is the game over shot right there.

Especially as he follows it up with another. Finishing it with a bang.

Oh well.....

One calamitous day again.....

A deserved win for India. England can take a lot from the match and the series but obviously still have things to work on.

take a lot being our batters are still poor apart from Root.

England captain Ben Stokes: "It was a great Test match. The scoreline says India win by five wickets but I don't think that gives enough credit to sum up the game as a whole.

Saying things like this is starting to grate a bit for me....

We lost Ben, that's all that matters.

We ballsed that up.

Yeah there was no excuse not to get to 200 yesterday and have a lead of 250.

Doubt Gill and Jhurel play as well as they did if they're needing 150 instead of 70

yeah ditto tbh

Don't mind him taking positives, and even not being totally dejected, but got to recognise that you lost and they won. Apart maybe from Root's lbw, there was nothing contentious about it.

If Stokes is not going to bowl much again. He needs to bat 3.. Some people think Pope is good enough. So bat him 6.
Crawley
Duckett
Stokes
Root
Brook (when hes comes back)
Pope
Foakes.
Looks a better line up to me., But won't happen. that requires thinking. so you can pass on that.
Bairstow is finished now. he shouldn't play in the last test.

Agree on Bairstow but sadly I'm pretty confident that he will keep wicket and bat 7 in the summer.

Stokes will bowl in the summer for certain, he's got 3 months until Pakistan come over so he will certainly bowl some overs then.

Bowling line up for the Pakistan series will probably be Anderson, Robinson and maybe Tongue or Potts along with Leach/Hartley/Bashir. Leach has just had surgery so not sure if he will be ready or who would be the understudy. You'd assume Hartley but Bashir obviously impressed in the last test.

This would be mental.
I might even write to the ECB if that happened.

No Wood or Woakes?

By the sounds of it they're losing patience with Robinson. A few articles came out yesterday once again talking about how he turned up to the tour not fully fit and then his pace was way down during the game because he got a twinge whilst batting. His podcast hasn't gone down too well either.

Reckon Jimmy, Woakes and Potts will be the 3 main guys this summer, with Wood, Atkinson and Tongue there for the extra pace.
