It will be interesting to see what we get charged with and the club's response.
I'm struggling to see how this sort of thing happens. Is it a deliberate attempt to flout the rules, or are there grey areas, or are the club's administrators just incompetent? Or maybe a combination, or something else?
It’s complete financial mismanagement Nuneaton and falls squarely on the board. Where this comes back to really is the summer of 2021 where Leicester were already in a precarious situation and decided not to sell Tielemans or Maddison (when there is interest in both) and instead spend money they didn’t have on absolute dross because they hired Congerton - a man with a poor recruitment track record.
Contracts were mismanaged and the wage bill went unsustainably high. The gamble relied on getting European football. Instead we finished 8th leading to a self imposed embargo next season and a desperate attempt to comply. Too little and too late.
What the accounts are set to show is that we haven’t made the necessary cuts to comply, despite frantically trying to. So what we have is the worst of both worlds - an attempt to comply partly leading directly to our relegation and then a points deduction anyway
A shambles of a club with an ownership that has failed to even get the basics right.
If your assessment is correct then it probably falls on Rudkin more than Whelan, with Top also being taken in by the DoF's decisions/advice.
Specifically, appointing Congerton leading to poor acquisitions, keeping Rodgers in post for far too long, gambling on getting European football to cover excessive spending (do these people never learn from history? Ridsdale anyone?) and definitely this obsession over successive managers with possession football.
I do worry for the club with no sign of change to the DoF.
I'm going to be fair to Rudders and mention that we have also done very well at times under his watch, getting high finishes in the EPL and winning the FA Cup. That still doesn't alter my view that a change is needed at DoF.
Rudkin certainly hasnt got everything wrong. His decision to bring in Rodgers in the first place was the right call and saw us go from a very dull middle of the road club under Puel to challenging for the top 4 and winning an FA cup under Rodgers
But his failings since COVID have been absolutely unforgivable, in particular losing £120m of players for nothing (the sales of which would have seen us avoid these charges), overseeing an awful recruitment approach, his backing of Rodgers, appointment of Dean Smith among many other things
Meanwhile those fans on this board that have vigorously defended the board have gone incredibly quiet. Not heard a word from True Blue have we?
https://www.ja606.co.uk/articles/viewArticle/451593
😂😂😂😂😂
It is quiet on here, usually get some input from a few contributors. I wonder why that is?
Leeds have won by the way, breathing down our necks now. When we kick off we could also only be ahead of Ipswich on goal difference.
The pressure is well and truly on.
I think the silence speaks volumes to be honest. I remember posting in our relegation season that i felt some Leicester fans were in for a huge shock in the coming months. It’s now starting to sink in for them as they start to realise how much trouble the club is in and that we’re facing years in the wilderness
Hiya 99.
Your second post articulated what happened perfectly so no point on building on it. We gambled on European football and Rodger, and like Nuneaton says, it never works. Ever.
What works is building sustainably and if we happen to over achieve doing that then great, and if we don’t do rot. But we have a financially stable club. That’s the whole reason FFP was brought in.
Mistskes were badly made chasing the dream. But would new owners fix this? I’m not sure they could beyond the course correction we are currently trying to do by offloading the mistakes and building back sustainably. Our owners want to pump more money into backing Maresca but they can’t because of the rules.
So whilst I also think Rudkin needs to go and we do that building under new guidance, what genuinely could a new owner/backer do that Top is not doing? I still see his wanting to make our club successful by investing in ot to the limit he can.
Up the board and all that.

Quite simply to answer your own question - a new owner would get rid of the deadwood in the boardroom that is killing this football club. Top has continued not only to back Rudkin but actually to increase his influence in the King Power group. Rudkin was even given responsibility for performing the autopsy into what went wrong when he was the chief architect of it.
So let’s simply start there Mersey. A new owner would do what Top can’t do - get a proper functioning board in place to drive the club forward.
What you seem to be suggesting is the person who catastrophically set the building on fire should be the person to rebuild it because everyone else would have to do the same job anyway. Bizarre
Anyway it doesn’t really matter Mersey because you’re actually now starting to make up the minority rather than the majority. The tide is turning against Top and the fanbase are getting more and more vocal every day. The charges from BOTH the PL and EFL will be the catalyst and the calls for him to go are going to get very loud over the next 12 months. Hope you enjoy it mate

There is no ‘they’ because the person that was the driving force behind all of the success and the incredible gestures of kindness is tragically dead. You talk as if he’s still at the club. What we now have is his clueless billionaire son who is consistently getting it wrong. It’s a different ownership - not sure why you’re struggling to see the difference

Bank rolling our club? He’s racked up hundreds of millions of losses that are set to see us charged and docked points. Just how blind are you? Seriously - when are you going to wake up? When we are in league 2? I am sick to death of trying to get you stare in the mirror and figure out how much of a mess this owner has got us into. He is STILL backing Rudkin even now. Have you heard of FFP - apparently there’s some noise around it right now. He can’t pump money into the club because it’s against the rules.
I’m not impossible to debate with, you just aren’t happy when I don’t agree with you. It’s ok to disagree and have different opinions to people you know?
Interesting exchange. You both want what's best for the club (as we all do), but have partially differing views as to what is needed. I'd point out that there is a large measure of agreement here about the mismanagement over the last few years.
I'm between the two of you in my views, edging towards where 99P is - I mostly agree, except Top is getting towards last chance saloon with me. He needs to realise that there is a fundamental issue at the club with the DoF, and sooner rather than later.
Unfortunately it doesn't look as if that will be happening anytime in the immediate future; perhaps it would take failure to get promoted (not something I want to happen and a few weeks ago looked very unlikely but is now quite possible) for a reappraisal to take place.
I have a horrible suspicion that Top just won't get there, it's fairly clear he isn't a patch on his dad unfortunately, but I'm willing to give him a bit more time before I get in to the KP out brigade. Why? Because I'm also aware that it's not usually good to have change for change's sake and remember the old adages -'be careful what you wish for' and 'jump out of the frying pan into the fire'.
I've not been really happy with where we are despite our success this year, being concerned about the future - hence my retention of the emogi.
Mersey - I’ve heard of FFP. I’ve also heard of profit and sustainability rules. They are both published rules clubs need to follow and are designed to make sure owners are not saddling clubs with unsustainable debt before they walk away. Like you know Mersey - let’s say £92m of losses in one season because we are trying to keep up with clubs who earn far more in revenues than we do.
God forbid if anything happened to Top it could push Leicester into administration with that kind of reckless financial debt. You have said yourself that you want the club to grow sustainably remember?
Despite Everton and Forest - the vast majority of clubs our size have managed to follow them. We have not. Our situation was entirely avoidable - we racked up unsustainable losses chasing Europe so STOP now twisting the ffp argument to somehow make out it’s preventing Top from properly investing in the club. Go and google Brighton and see how they have done it.
The reason you are on the verge of being blocked is not because you have a difference of opinion to me - it’s because we seem to waste time going in circles on factual points in a way I don’t experience with other posters.
What I also experience with you that I don’t experience with others is that when a local counter argument is put to you, you completely swerve it. Perfect examples in this thread where you completely ignored the Rudkin point. Scroll back up. You asked a question to try and once again defend Top by asking ‘well what else could another owner do that Top isn’t doing?’. I answered - get rid of Rudkin who you have now finally admitted isn’t up to task. You’ve just stopped debating the point - probably because it’s irrefutable
Let me clear. I’m not about to block you because you support the board and I don’t, Its because we go round in circles on the same points because you continually either misrepresent facts (like your ridiculous FFP excuse) or you swerve any argument you can’t refute and then we start again
You are the most frustrating Leicester fan I’ve ever come across
Watch him now not reply to the above post by the way - he’ll go off and hide again. It’s like trying to pin the tail on the donkey debating with him.
Sorry 99, I wasn’t avoiding reply, life gets a bit busy every now and again.
I think Nuneaton is right. I agree with most of what you’ve written about our failure to meet FFP and the mismanagement that created it. I think Rudkin should fall as a result of that.
But I also understand how the mistake was made and that as a club were now trying to return to being run sustainably. I don’t want us to fall foul of FFP either because I was a sustainable club.
I agree with most of what you’ve written, I just don’t want a change at the top. I want to see us returning ing the the successful model of growth pre Rodgers under stops leadership. If he fails to resolve this then I’ll join you in asking him to leave. But politely and with gratitude.
Again though your argument just keeps falling over. You want to see us returning to the successful model of growth under Tops leadership - yet Top has appointed the very man you feel is responsible for our regression as the man to hold the inquisition into what went wrong.
Rudkins influence has grown in the last few years, not declined and his appointment of Maresca is now starting to reek of a potential mistake- which will be borne out in full if we don’t go up
So Top is showing no signs of being able to restore us to where we were by backing the man that was chiefly responsible for the mess in the first place. It’s why your argument fails time and again

When we are in league 2? I am sick to death of trying to get you stare in the mirror and figure out how much of a mess this owner has got us into. He is STILL backing Rudkin even now. Everyone you are presented with a fact you can’t refute you stop debating. You’re one annoying post away from being blocked - not because of a difference of opinion, but because you’re impossible to debate with.
