How many clean sheets has Meslier had now?

Written off before season started, Darlow was going to be number 1, we wouldnt be top without Meslier.

I think most people would point to the remarkable presence of Rodon and Ampadu ahead of him and say that in the majority of games since the turn of the year he hasn't had to do an awful lot, but I agree what he has done has been mostly first class.

He is still a little shaky with his distribution however and the sending off blots his copy book somewhat.

He remains far from the finished article and prior to our recent fine run some of the goals we conceded, he should have done a lot better with.

On the Darlow point, I think he was bought to offer competition or back-up but Meslier was still seen as the number one, the one holding the position, as is often the case, nothing in Darlow's playing history indicates he was ever a regular starter.

A team would need to have had a very poor season for their keeper to be named as player of the season, I am sure you are just arguing Meslier's case but I have no recollection of any keeper winning the award.

Fans on here wanted rid of Meslier and Darlow was pronounced as number 1.

Even now if your post its faint praise.

Clean sheets weren't down to him, distribution poor, goals his fault, not finished article....

he's 24, played nearly 150 games for us through promotion prem, battles to stay up and promotion again....what more do you feel he needs to be finished article?

He has his faults, but no else id rather have in goal.

Fans or here or the club?

I understood that as we only had Meslier, Klaesson and a group of untried kids.
I think the club recognised we needed an experienced pro to challenge Meslier but not necessarily to replace him as the starter. I don't know but I believe that to be the case.
I don't think fans opinion on this really matter but I wonder how many Leeds fans on here thought that Darlow was bought in to pave the way for Meslier to leave.
I know there were rumours that Meslier wanted to leave but never saw any serious bids and his attitude always seemed right.

It has been quite obvious watching Darlow in the few appearances that he has had made for us exactly why he has never held down a permanent number one place. Personally I've rated Klaesson better than him.

Meslier without a doubt has a mistake in him, are you forgetting the recent fumble when he was bailed out by Ampadu (I think). He remains a top class shot stopper but he has made mistakes this season, for example shots passing him at the near post, that has improved of late but, I cannot remember too many shots of the type we were conceding goals from earlier in the season.

My view is his distribution isn't the best at times. I cannot remember the game (Huddersfield I think), he just punted it down field to one of their midfielders, other games he kicks into touch. He relies on Ampadu or Rodon from a creative point of view because he doesn't have the ability beyond that. I suppose that's the level of a championship level goalkeeper and you cannot compare Meslier at this point in his career to a top half Premier League Goal Keeper.

I would be concerned if we didn't have the solidity of those two and Gruev in front of him which have kept the shots on goal down.

I think he's worth a shout for player of the year, but who do you leave out.

The problem is with keepers is of course any mistakes can be so much more costly and if he fumbles it and a team mate steps in to clear up his mistake there's people like me saying he's a crap keeper (he's not), Rutter mis-controls a pass (which he does every week), Kamara tidies it up and nobody cares.

First sentence Jonty should read "fans on here or the club"?

It could also be argued that before Rodon and Ampadu came to us that any keeper in Meslier's place would have done no better!..

Our defense at that time was one of if not the worst in the league, but the keeper being the last man standing he'll always take the blame!..

Our defense is now taking pressure of Meslier, but if other keepers in this league had it than most of them would have less to do!..

The way things should be!..

Massive swing today towards Ampadu. Rodon has lost a vote whilst Ampadu has gained many.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes that was me unfortunately I had a senior moment thinking I was rating the article and not realising I had in fact given my vote to Rodon by mistake when my preference for POTS was Ampedu so I duly corrected it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The easiest way to decide on your vote for POTS is to ask yourself, 'what is the first name I look for on the team sheet?' For me, it is Rodon, because as brilliant as Ampadu is, Rodon is the defender we have needed since we lost Ben White. Fearless, uninjured, rock solid and always in the right place at the right time. He makes the difference in defence for us.

Could also be that we still think of Ampadu as a DMF, not a Centre Back.

Have to agree with those who call out Gruev’s contribution to our success since he’s been starting games.
