I actually think he played relatively well.

Yeah I think so too. Appreciate that from an Arsenal supporter. He keeps things simple, at the moment maybe a bit timid being a younger player still but anyone that watches football can see his qualities and intelligence to just keep.things.simple

Completely anonymous
Ran around a bit but never found space
No creativity
Looked gassed after 60 mins
England’s best moments came when he was subbed off

You're so monotonous. I'd delete your comment or filter you but I'd rather everyone see your repetitive and bland comments
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He's the most clueless poster on 606. He hates United more than he likes Arsenal.

Mainoo was better than Rice I thought. Rice and Bellingham (until he showed up with 60 secs to go) were embarrassing and they are both more experienced than he is.

The balance of the team is all wrong and that's nothing to do with Kobbie.

I think that Mainoo was one of the few players to try and be positive. And Palmer when he came on tried to look forward.

The problem of who partners Rice will not be solved until we have someone at left back who gives us width and can run into the space beyond our winger. Also, I like Saka, but I think Palmer is more creative, comes deep to look for the ball, plays into space and can make things happen... and he always shows for the ball. I am shocked he went for Eze before Gordon too as Gordon is more direct and gives more width.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is that what we need though. Yet another player dropping deep to try and make things happen despite having no-one to aim for with the pass because everyone's dropping into the same space.

I rate Palmer but if you're bringing him on you need Gordon and Watkins too, otherwise Saka does a better job for the team IMO

Thought he looked to be positive, and played pretty well.

Most importantly (and I say this as an England supporter rather than a Gooner) he looks the best partner we have in the squad for Rice.

I’d start him against the Swiss tbh.

Mainoo should not be starting for England yet however he was not poor unlike some of the senior players on the pitch with him.

What's with all these garbage Mainoo articles? Why do you care what people think about Mainoo?

He was not better than anyone on the pitch before he went off. It seems people grade the young man on a curve where the only thing he needs to do to get credit is not make a howler or embarrass himself on the pitch, while other players around him are actually expected to make things happen. Reminds me of Man U's FA Cup final win where Fernandez and Amrabat were comfortably Man U's best players and Mainoo got MOTM for whatever reason.

According to the official stats, Kobbie Mainoo only completed one tackle today.

For a deep-lying midfielder, Mainoo offered zero protection for Kyle Walker. Which is why Walker spent most of the game in his own half. Leaving Saka with no overlapping support.

Mainoo also offered zero support to Saka in attack. Which means Saka had to deal with at least 2 Slovakia defenders any time he got the ball.

Mainoo might go on to develop into a brilliant player one day. But not as a deep-lying midfielder.

Can’t argue against stats I guess.

What I would counter with though, is look how poor we looked in midfield when Gallagher came on.

Wharton obviously isn’t getting and game time, so who does that leave? (Genuine question.)

Please not TAA (ever) again.

Mainoo completed 65 out of 68 passes. The most of any player on the pitch.

Just shows how utterly clueless you are mate and how you're allowing club bias to impact your thoughts.

Not only did he keep the ball well he also was positive and dribbled past players and won free kicks.

Mainoo had a good game and that's nothing to do with me being a Utd fan as I'm very critical of my own team regularly and deservedly so.

Because he did little with his passing. In a match where England were behind for so long, he wasn't taking risks or looking to play in attackers and create, or switch the play. He executed just one long pass for example from 2 attempts while Rice was 7/7. He had just one successful take-on. As I said, the guy gets graded on a curve and all he has to do is not embarrass himself for his hype men to claim how brilliant he is. Claiming a critic of his performance is showing his club bias is just you projecting your own club bias on the person.

Mainoo was one of the few taking risks. Bizarre to suggest he wasn’t having watched the game.

posted on 30/6/24

Neat and tidy but the problem was the lack of movement from his colleagues limited his passing options. When he was on the ball he ALWAYS looked for the forward pass whereas the rest were content with backward and sideway passes.

A decent 6.5 out of 10

Let's also not forget this was Mainoo's debut season for club and country, no doubt nerves played a part, not that we saw any nerves. He simply played it safe (no surprise given who he answers to!). Get this England to play more dynamically and on the front foot and you'll see more from Mainoo.

Maino was my MOTM.
Frustratingly enough probably only guehi, saka and palmer even close, which says it all. A really poor team perfomance.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gayhe picked up that early yellow then settled well. Splitting hairs in terms of picking out outstanding performers tbh, we were below par but Mainoo was positive and when there were options to play forward he did, sadly he was either ignored by Rice, who was awful at times, or the option to play forward was not there at all. He often played it safe, probably under orders not to lose the ball.

Hollywood passes when he should have kept it simple? Wasn't impressed TBH.

We won the game due to fortuitous moments and sheer improvised brilliance from Jude. Nothing more.

posted on 1/7/24

Equally we didn’t lose the game in part due to the protection Rice gave Stones and Guehi.

That's one side of his game he needs to work on, he has tendencies to switch off.
