With the new format we don't want to be expending too much energy in the groups. Trying to win every match is a waste of energy. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Finishing around 8th in the group is the most efficient target. A team going for 1st will burn out by Christmas. A draw was therefore the best result for us last night and leaves us in joint 7th. Exactly where we want to be. A win would have left us joint top and risk of burn out.
It is actually quite alarming how poor you guys are in Europe.
You beat the great Barnsley 7-0 last week, what more do yo want?
Don't forget that TenHag is/was a Twente boy well before ManU !
Thats a v v poor result last night. FC Twente are pretty poor.
How Sam Lammers can score against Man Utd but look like a league 2 striker when playing in scotland is beyond me !!
That record is shocking.
I'm pretty much Ten Hag out at this point, nothing is changing. I get occasional moments where I can see what we are trying to do and what we could be under him, then many moments where it's a mess again.

articles like this can be expected during his first season in charge .... but results like this are common still 2 years in... There is zero excuses for not being able to comfortable deal witha team of Twentes standard especially at home.
What is evolving for sure is that the INEOS revolution that was expected to bare fruit this season has not yet had an affect on results. We can see that tactically, different things are being tried and happening on the pitch this season that weren't last season, but what isnt changing seems to be the mental resolve of our players gelling collectively as a tough and formidable unit. United are still very flakey with a very soft underbelly. This is also down to the manager (and some of his inexpicable team selections and late substitutions which has to change, for his sake as well as United's....and players individually, who still dont seem 'up for it' against what should be beatable opposition especually at OT. Like Twente were/are last night.

You'd think that if this was his second season, you could see the progress and what he is working towards. But its year 3 which makes you wonder, is he ever going to get it working.
Are people even sure what Hag-ball looks like when it does really truly work. Have you ever put in performances which you think, YES, that was it, that's the template and the bar we must achieve.
I compare it to doubts over Ange at Spurs. It's also been a bit up and down but I at least feel like I know and have seen what Ange-ball looks like when it properly works, on many occasions now, and not just against the weaker opposition.

True, we’ve only won the CL/European cup 3 times
For a big club that’s not great
What is happening this season, I would have expected as a minimum for last season. Signs of a style of play, occasional moments where we don't always win when we should be but you can see actual improvement.
But ETH is in his third year, and we are still struggling to put away poor teams, we don't seem to be able to dominate a game for a full match and score a good number of goals (don't try to include Barnsley as an example) and we should be able to give the better teams a good game, sometimes win some, sometimes drop points in others.
But we don't put away poor teams and don't often beat the top teams. Excuses are running out.........

I know what you did there, but actually, 3 isn't a big enough number in my opinion, compared to a lot of other big clubs.
If he drops Bruno and plays Zirkzee behind Hojlund then I think he has a chance of turning this around. But I don't think that will happen. Or perhaps they all work together in the same team.

Even Eriksen in there would be a better choice. He has got to stop playing Eriksen in the midfield 2.
I am mindful not to blame Bruno entirely - he's not going to ask to be dropped, and he's been the one key player in the past 5 years. But ETH needs to act quickly and recognise that he needs dropped. An on-it Bruno is more than capable of being an integral part of this team, but ETH needs to be more clever with his rotation of the squad.
the INEOS revolution that was expected to bare fruit this season

I don't recall anyone sensible suggesting that the structural and leadership changes INEOS have made would have a significant short-term impact on the performance of the team.

No but people did expect a long term one to evolve. Short term or long term, there is no evidence thst either will happen. How long do we give it to see progress?
The one we won against Copenhagen we needed a late penalty save from Onana too. 😂
This manager is truly woeful and anyone still defending this clown needs to take up a new sport as football ain't for them.
ETH said last night that he has to look in the mirror. No $hit Sherlock.
Ask yourself why you think it is a good idea to keep starting Eriksen. Unless we have loads of injuries Eriksen should never start.
Ask yourself why you insist on playing Bruno in nearly every match when his form is often horrific. or why you keep playing 4-2-3-1.
Ask yourself why your players keep going back to slow tempo passing when we need a goal.
Ask yourself why you cannot get Onana to release the ball a lot quicker. Martinez as well. The number of good runs Zirkzee made last night to no avail was ridiculous.
Rr
I don, t expect United to win the Pl or the EL in the next 3 years. But being up for last night i do expect to see immediately. You could actually tell last night what was going to happen from the team selection and the wasteful and casual way the players went about their task.
I've never seen a team look to ponderous but so rushed at the same time. As soon as Twente scored we seemed to panic.
The players do need to take some of the blame, of course, but even when we do change players the same problems persist. I do think he has the tools at his disposal to do much better but don't think he's quite sure how to do it. It's a shame as I'm certain he's not a bad manager.
FC twente's 20 odd man squad was assembled for less than what we paid for Antony.
Spurs Porto and Villa will hopefully be all she wrote. The sooner he's gone the sooner we can actually hope for better times again. The second Jim's team spoke to Tuchel in spring he was a dead man walking and this collapse was all too predictable.
1 win in 9 European games for a Manchester United manager is pathetic and given 5 of those have come against Copenhagen Galatasaray and FC Twente speaks volumes.
Get rid of him before another season is tosses into the abyss.
So it wasn't just the injuries then
To add to my previous rant.
Ask yourself why we keep passing the ball behind the intended target instead of in front of him.
Ask yourself why we keep chipping corners and free kicks into the box instead of delivering the ball in a way that gives our players a chance at getting on the end of it.
There seems to be talk that Ruud might be the next manager. Has he shown anything in his managerial career that he’s up to it?
