Well. That was disappointing...but IMO not unexpected. Its not the games v the top teams that have let us down...but the games that we plain and simply shoulda won.
That said, theres just under half the season left, so plenty to play for. So, its not losing today that will define our season - but the business that Warne is able to do in the next 2 weeks because the players we have just aren't good enough. I dont especially blame the manager because we're still suffering from the fall out of going bust / relegation. Plain and simply financially we cant compete with most of this division.
Anyway, for me, today Watford generally were much the better team. So, we go again on Tuesday. Cheers. Terry. UTR

Watford were awful at the back, but we still couldn't score.

I'm struggling to remember a relatively recent game in thus division or L1 (live or on TV) when I've really enjoyed the performance.

..... and i can't see any change anytime soon. 🤷‍♂️

I write as I think you recognise, as your most accomplished pundit, and I am slightly (but only slightly) alarmed.

You well know my aversion to the horrors of the Premiership and I was planning on a comfortable period of consolidation and development in the middle bit of the Championship.

This is proving a bigger challenge than anticipated. Let me know how you plan to deal with it.

I write as some who was there.

If we stay up, then it is mission accomplished.

Go on then, sack Warne, then what? Pay compo and then no money for January transfers.

Then who takes over - realistically?

Can we change the style of play? Unlikely, just like we had to play a certain way League 1, we cannot deviate in the Championship.

We are the ‘nearly winners’ - run of the green today, or at Sheff Weds or Luton or even flucking something at Leeds and things would look soooooo different,

Yes, it’s füčķǐňġ annoying but until we get a sugar mummy we are where we are.

Plus, it was freezing today and even at the end I applauded the players.

I don’t have a way with words and I’m no orator but this is what we are, what we have and what we have to (literally) play with.

I see some negative comments on here but there were some good moments for us. Adams excelled again, Kenzo showed much cleverness and needs to get on the ball more, Cash grew into the game after his long lay-off, JWZ kept us in the game for much of the time, Osborne lasted 94 mins, we hit the bar (or post) three times had no luck at all the way the ball bounced in the W area and we had CBT who was outstanding until cynically fouled. Just when we need him he could be out again!!!

Yes there were points for criticism - a tentative first half where maybe confidence was lacking, Jackson hardly touching the ball til his clever overhead which hit the bar, too many misplaced passes when under no pressure but in spite of all that we showed in the second half that here is cause for optimism. Do not give up yet for goodness sake!

Positive statements Chicago. I dont think we under performed. I think we were 2nd best. As i said we need to pick up points from the "lesser teams". Do i blame Warne...no, i dont. We just dont have a pot to pi55 in. We have to make 4th from bottom. I do think we're capable of that. Im hearing 4 in 4 out in this Window. Dont know if its true...but lets face it we need new faces. We go again Tuesday. Lets stay behind the team. Cheers. Terry. UTR

All good points View. Yes we're on a bad run. Apparently there is no one wanting to invest in DCFC so we are where we are. Fingers crossed for more incomings and players coming back from injury. No point whinging. We just get on with it.

Fact of the day;

Watford had not kept a clean sheet away from home this season........

That didn't age well.

Well if the redoutable Scouse is now showing signs of concern, then it's a wake up call to us all. 😱

I thought we played at about the level expected of our group of players. Trouble is, most teams have better quality players than we do, especially in attacking areas. This isn’t anybody’s fault as such, it’s a reflection of the financial restrictions we have had to contend with. None of our front three would get anywhere near Watford’s subs bench for example. So to win a game we need the other team to under-perform, or we need to over-perform, or we need the luck to go our way which was not the case today. The ricochet for their goal was a fluke and if we don’t score first against technically superior teams we are really up against it.

Defensively we are generally very sound and well-organised out of possession, but when we are chasing a game our limitations are very obvious. We lack power, pace and creativity in attacking areas. Any chances we create generally come from trying to put good crosses into the box and hoping the ball falls to one of our players rather than carving opportunities through precision or individual brilliance.

I doubt another manager would do much more. The style might be easier on the eye but a team is only ever as good as its forwards and we are weak. I think to change the manager now would increase the chance of relegation. If and when we get better quality players there would be more of an argument for a more progressive style, but for now we need to stick together and tough it out. We don’t need all that much more to eke out the necessary wins. The Viking will hopefully make a difference and with one or two more in, as the manager has stated, we ought to start nicking the occasional goal with the current tactics which will lead to just enough tight wins to keep us up.

I thought Cashin was excellent today as was CBT in his 30 minutes. He was hobbling very badly at the end though which is bad news as his crossing is very good and ought to suit the Viking.

A fit Nyambe would allow Wilson to get further forward where he always worries opponents. A fit Ozoh with Adams would give us more midfield power to have a better chance of getting the upper hand in midfield, and if we now have a lad up front who can get hold of the ball consistently we would look a much stronger outfit. We need it sooner than later though.

All good points Vidal - and Scouse, Watford were lucky to keep a clean sheet today. But they did have more quality upfront and in midfield which is only to be expected for reasons well articulated elsewhere on this thread.

Yes, and probably after eating one of his exceedingly good pies …

Vidal all good points 👍🏼
We are far too lightweight in midfield, had Ozoh been fit I do think we'd be in a different position.
Hopefully we can get someone in while the window is open to boost the squad.

I did also wonder how & why Elder had been dragged over into the RB position leaving a gaping hole in the left side of our defence ? Appeared to be no structure in defending the counter 🤔

At least Adams made an effort to be there, or thereabouts.

I thought their number 19 Bayo played like Tammy Abraham, he was terrific and did everything a centre forward should do. I wish we had him.

And the number 34...Baah was very quick and a good winger, wish we had him.

Sorry Vidal I thought Cashin looked rather rusty and struggled, along with Elder.

I find it difficult to fathom why we buy a player who isn't ready for a few minutes of football.

I thought CBT was our best player. PW treats him disgracefully.

Imagine if the new player was put on & wasn't match fit because he hadn't played since December & pulled his hamstring or quad & he was out for 6 weeks, you'd be asking why did we put him on....

When did Cashin last play? And why has this player not played? Has he trained? Seems like amateursville to me. He is 29 soon and still is playing in Norway, why has no one picked him up before? And why is CBT treated so badly
