The young players are the better ones though, probably getting by on youthful energy. Some of the more experienced I think have just lost hope under this regime. I'm not trying to excuse Son because he was shiiite but he's seen it all before and like many of us, probably knows this manager isn't the one and won't get us anywhere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Son has probably been Spurs worse player all season. Nothing to do with the manager. He is just way past it now. Continually missing one on ones is nothing to do with Ange.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And yet Ange is the one who coaches him and keeps picking him. So yeah, it has everything to do with him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So who do you suggest he picks in the absence of so many players? Son wouldn't be getting picked if Solanje, Richarlison, Odobert or Johnson were available?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maybe we should have just kept Lankshear and given him some goes? Or bring on the academy products again. The youngsters are the ones that seem to be carrying us right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The team just needs it's best players back. They are first picks for a reason. Are you suggesting you would prefer Lankshear over Solanke?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It needs its best players back and a proper manager for the longterm.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The current manager will be fine with the best players playing. Eve Slot notices that. Two defeats in two cup competitions because he had several of his best players missing in both matches against PSV and Plymouth.
But, but, but apparently not having your best players playing doesn't make any difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was losing too many games before the injuries, remember? Lost to teams we shouldn't have like Palace and Ipswich. We're the only team in the league that haven't gone more than 2 games unbeaten since April...April!! 2 months away from being a year. Half of that time has been with a fully fit squad.
He's a poor manager who is out of his depth in this league.

I'm talking about in the league. Frankly that's the only thing that's going to save him for me, league form. But obviously if you keep losing matches at the rate he does then forget it.
I totally agree that Ange needs to show we can get back to where we were pre-injuries and then improve us in those obvious areas that needed addressing.
He has a massive task on his hands to prove himself but i simply do not believe any manager could prove themselves in these circumstances. Yes, some may have been able to perform better.
Newcastle suffered in similar fashion last season, having 10 losses in their first 21 games, but finished the season much more strongly - P17 W9 D4 L4.
We need to see a similar 1.8 - 2 pts a game sort of come back to have any faith that he is capable.
Talk is that a lot of the injured are back over the next 2 weeks - VDV Udogie Odobert Vicario Solanke Maddison Johnson are expected back. Romero a bit of an unknown, Radu out for the season and Richy looks bad too. Even with a few missing i think we can expect and demand a significant improvement.

We might have lost that chance for anyone being able to do better because of how long in the season we've left it now. Feels like half of the players are hopeless and only some of the youngsters are really trying their hardest.
I don't exactly like the idea that we're just keeping him around because we're in such a state that we're saying to ourselves nobody can do better. I mean we don't know that and we won't know it until we do change. If we were to get an interim like a Harry or someone of that ilk, it might give the team a bit of a lift.
As i stands with Ange I'm not expecting us to win the Europa and I'm not expecting things to change the way they should in the league either. Form could improve somewhat with players returning but I doubt it will be any better than it was before the injury crisis, which wasn't good enough already. I'm not even confident we wouldn't get yet more injuries under Ange when players return.
Re: Newcastle, they never dropped to the depths we dropped too. I think they dropped to 10th when they were deep in their injury crisis and there's a lot more trust in Eddie due to his credit in the bank - 10th the season before, a cup final. Ange doesn't have credit in the bank, he lost it with his form at the end of last season, so therefore less trust in him, certainly for those of us who don't rate him.
Plus injured players returned last season and the form was no better and we went on that poor run. So that just casts more doubt that things will change when this lot will return.
For me i think you can still see the players are playing for him, so that is reason enough to let us see what we can achieve for the rest of the season. I certainly do not rule out a decent run in the EL, although we'll need some players back.
An interim would be an utter waste of time, it always is.
When we get the majority of the squad back, Ange needs to show exactly what we are capable of. The best version of ourselves, which will not be world beaters, but should be a very good team capable of competing with the likes of Villa, NUFC, Chelsea, Forest, not to mention the likes of Palace & Ipswich, and any one we face in the EL.
That is my minimum requirement from the rest of this season.
*Meant 4th for Eddie the season before obviously
I'm Ange out but seeing as that in all likelihood we're stuck with the guy for the remainder, then yes he needs to show much more improved form when players return. It's the only way he's going to convert me to being Ange in.

If it was me I would have sacked him a while back. I mean wasn't it after the Chelsea loss that the club made a statement saying they were backing him but that form needed to improve? Things have not got better since that time and that was 2 months ago. 2 wins and 6 losses in 9 later with exits in both cups and he's still here. The guy is made of teflon.

There are serious and obvious mitigating circumstances which make it hard to judge.
We just lost to Villa. Earlier in the season with a few injured we beat them 4-1. Last season we beat them 4 nil at theirs.
We all knew this was a tough draw. Its a tough match even with full strength.
So i do not get the massive melt down because we lost. The first half was very poor and may be the mid week game impacted that. Villa had a whole week off. May be its Ange? Maybe the players are out on their feet, mentally shot with the work load and pressure.
And that's the thing. Who knows?
We get a few players back, have some time off between games, some time on the training pitch, we should expect to see a big turn around.
Whoever we get in the EL last 16, we should be beating.
These are the times that Ange will be judged by the Board, not when we are consistently playing with 6-10 injured. If we are still losing and looking like we have a rinse and repeat of tactical issues then we will know for certain.
I am not wed to Ange. I really want him to succeed and think he deserves the rest of the season, with players back to prove people wrong. He's gonna have to!

They could have used their judgement in the games before the injury crisis to say things weren't going so well.
For me personally, I felt he needed that good start after the way last season ended cause that left me disappointed. For us to have made a stuttering start and kept that going to December was more disappointment. So since the shocking form, even with the injuries, I feel he's used up the time I've been willing to give him. Last straw was the Leicester game.
I'll go one better, we should DEMAND to see a big turn around when players return. Ange has been banging the injury drum for weeks and has talked almost in an arrogant fashion about always winning in 2nd seasons. No excuse not to see the sort of U-turn the likes of Newcastle have made and a very realistic chance of doing something in the Europa.
The injuries have kept in the job
I think once the defence is back for a game or two he will be judged very very quickly , fairly or not , by levy
It will feel like he is on a game to game basis
Maybe that’s why he has kept Romero and VDV on a slow recovery ….knows they will make fack all difference and he has nowhere else to turn
That’s not a serious comment before anyone jumps on me

Actually this came to mind watching yesterday, the players actually look on the contrary. They're not playing for the manager.
In fact, the manager has openly stated time and time again he doesn't have a "connection" with the players. In fact he has no relationship with them.
This was emphasized by a Brad Jones interview a few days ago where he literally says his style of management didn't work for him. Search it up on the tube.

Ange has been banging the injury drum for weeks and has talked almost in an arrogant fashion about always winning in 2nd seasons. No excuse not to see the sort of U-turn the likes of Newcastle have made and a very realistic chance of doing something in the Europa.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed. He needs to put his money where his mouth is. We need to see the sort of Spurs that if we had been able to see all season would have us easy top 6 right now, and making a better fist of tough cup games.
This is what i do not understand.
We had a stuttering start to this season, agreed. Performances were better than the end of last season, results should have been better. But year 2 of a new regime, do you not expect bumps in the road? Had we assembled a flawless squad in his 12 months? Is that even possible considering where we were coming from? It's just not realistic for someone to step in, rebuild a majority of the squad and playing style and have it fine tuned within 1 season. Daft expectations.
We had a stuttering start but remained well placed. Its not the unmitigated disaster that some paint it as, it was slightly worse than hoped for (1 extra win would have had us 3rd after 12 games), but with issues to address.
Addressing the issues has become almost impossible without 4 of the back 5, and more latterly 1 of the front 3 fit.
When we have players back result will naturally improve, but more than that we should expect to see real progress in addressing the issues that were affecting us even when we had a fit squad.

I'm not even confident we wouldn't get yet more injuries under Ange when players return.
posted on 10/2/25
Re: Newcastle, they never dropped to the depths we dropped too.
So that just casts more doubt that things will change when this lot will return.
posted on 10/2/25
For me i think you can still see the players are playing for him, so that is reason enough to let us see what we can achieve for the rest of the season.

*Meant 4th for Eddie the season before obviously
I'm Ange out but seeing as that in all likelihood we're stuck with the guy for the remainder, then yes he needs to show much more improved form when players return. It's the only way he's going to convert me to being Ange in.

Fair enough.
I can understand why some think Ange should go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If it was me I would have sacked him a while back.
