Touché sir
Born in the last year of the '50s so I got an over abundance of the beatles and stones in my early lugs, which has kind of put me off them a bit.
In retrospect the beatles were crap until about 1968 - when they started to take more control of their output. The stones were pretty good so I'll go:
Joy Division
Primal Scream
The Smiths
Radiohead
Stones/Zeppelin
even though i actually fell asleep whilst attending one of Zeppelins last concerts (at Knebworth) - it was a long day and the ale was just too strong.
As for non-UK bands/artists I'd go:
Kraftwerk
Velvet Underground
Sigur Ros
REM
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Although Prince, Neil Young and Jimi are very worthy contenders
Best 5 bands will be down to individuals taste and choice, for instance I love a load of bands mentioned but grew up going to see Depeche Mode and loved them and that period in my life but most likely many others wouldn't?
Also to be fair any list would be variable and flexible dependant on my mood and feelings
The disrespect to Fleetwood Mac and Take That.

Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac were great but I consider the 70s onward version just as much American as British
You have a good point about Take That though. They could be magic.
It’s still a British band.
Morrissey solo is better than The Smiths trust me
Pink Floyd
Deep Purple
T-Rex
Roxy Music
Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin
Then 4 others
Radiohead will be in there for me
Black Sabbath
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
King Crimson
Haken
Impossible to narrow it down to just 5. I'm struggling to narrow it down to 15. 😂
Top five Aussie bands Robb?

Parkway Drive
Radiohead
Queen
Fleetwood Mac
The Beatles
The Smiths
Angus and Julia Stone are the best Aussie act

You forgot Men At Work.
You'd have to have Oasis as one of the finest Beatles tribute acts ever to come out of Manchester.
