A lot of debate on twitter regarding Meslier and the goal, plenty of arguments for and against him. He was excellent today, the goal wasn't a massive error on his part, he came and forced Bishop into a decision and he took it. Thought Schmid was excellent for them too.

Best mate is a Pompey fan so I've followed/know a bit about them and there season. Mate said that Leeds had technically good players but didn't have the aggression to cope with Pompey. Felt they dominated periods of the game and deserved the win albeit no VAR saved them. Reckons they outplayed Sheff Utd away from home last time out away and didnt look like relegation battlers. Reckons we're going up comfortably 👍
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I’d agree with your pompey mate’s assessment. A lot of sides outplay Sheffield united, to say they’ve ridden their luck this year is an understatement.

Meslier played well today until dithering for the goal. Swap Meslier for cooper and we’re already promoted whilst sheff U scrap for a play off place.

The goal today wasn't down to one of Meslier's Sunday League style horrors.

But the old adage is a keeper should make himself bigger when coming out like that. Meslier's enormous but somehow rarely looks it.

Afternoon all🌞.

Yep, so, it’s good to be able to sound off a little bit after that and, after all, that’s what JA606 is for isn’t it?

Well, starting with the 5 points we’ve dropped in the last 2 games versus each of the other 3 auto-promotion rivals … with that buffer now gone, we could be in 3rd place in the league by the time we next play. That’s bound to add to the pressure and it’ll be fascinating to see how DF copes with that.

Talking of DF, I’ve praised him on other threads for showing leadership re: some recent big decisions, but I’m a little tired of hearing his ‘same-old’ excuse post-match today about our lack of efficiency in front of goal. Daniel - you’ve made your bed fella … it’s your job to sort it!

But … we’re still top. Auto-promotion is still in our own hands. It’s been a bad couple of games for us but I’m still backing us to go up as champions … albeit I’m a tadge less confident than I was a fortnight ago.

Anyway, I guess all I can do is sit back and enjoy the ride, as they say😁👍.

If Meslier makes an early commitment to coming out the Pompey player Dosnt even get a shot on goal. It’s a speculative long ball at best and should have been dealt with

I don't know why I didn't notice at the time but yes unfortunately Meslier's hesitation proved costly which was a shame because he was excellent apart from that and probably caught in two minds after he rushed out too quickly against Hull and made it easier for them to score and was criticised for not staying back so ironically he stayed back today when he should have rushed out quicker and im sure the Pompey forward doesn't score then but hey who'd be a goalie???

Missed Ampadu massively in that midfield. Simply can't start Tanaka again for such a game away from home. I'm hoping he was carrying a knock but for me he wasn't up for the battle & ended up hiding. Can't afford that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tanaka was awful today but are you seriously suggesting that 30 games or whatever it is at a brilliant standard followed by one shocker means we should never start him in away game again?

The hyperbole when we lose is off the scale

I was saying to my mates at half time that maybe Gruev and Rothwell might make a decent pairing but how do you drop Tanaka?

Maybe today was a game too much for him? Maybe he needs a rest?

Will be interesting to see who we start on Weds!

You don’t drop Tanaka. Was right to take him off because he was hopeless today, but we have 36 games to form an opinion, not one. Hes been our best cm of the 3 available and must start. Despite Gruev playing better today he gets dropped for Rothwell at home.

His biggest decision will be whether Jospeh or Gnonto/Ramazani get a start. I can see him bringing one of those in along with Rothwell for Millwall.

I'm saying against a physical side he certainly shouldn't start. That's not hyperbole, that's opinion based on what i saw with my own eyes today. If it turns out he was carrying a knock after all then fair enough, but he really didn't fancy it.

If this is going to be a scrap between now & the season end we need everyone in it.

No meltdown from me though - even though we could be in third place come tomorrow night.

I just don't see why I would put so much emphasis on one poor game when there's 32 other games in which he has been excellent. He just had a bad game. It happens. It doesn't erase my memory of the rest of the season.

Ok if he isn't fit to play then obviously he can be dropped. But 1 poor game isn't enough form to drop a player on.

I agree if it’s only one game but hasn’t he started virtually every game this season?

Maybe his body just need a rest? It’s a tough position he plays in.

I’m sure his body stats will be available to the manager. They will know from those stats exactly how his body is coping with the number of games he’s been playing.

Wednesday is a huge game now and we have to be at our best. Every team we play will want, more than ever, to see us falling apart again.

I’ll be there supporting every player in a white shirt - no matter who they are.

did anyone else notice ref went to make a tv var signal but stopped and realised it was up to him, ref was gutless and failed miserably for pen and for the assault on mes, very least was a yellow and just shows var has scared prem refs into not making vital decisions when someone else can make them for them
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yup that's what it has done to the game, pl ref do not need to think too much, as have a back up, to why we do no need pl refs in this league

Yesterday was proper blood & thunder stuff like we haven't seen this season. And even though nobody particularly played well, Tanaka wasn't even up for the fight. At best it could possibly be described as complacency.

We'll face similar at QPR & Luton for sure. Middlesbrough is hostile too. For all Tanaka has been great for most of the season (though it's not his first poor game) my point is everyone needs to be rolling their sleeves up now. Another meek surrender like last season & this club could be in the doldrums for years again. We can't afford to carry anyone.
