Rooney and Mbappe probably in the conversation.. But yea, hard to disagree with Rio.
Yamal is decent, but clearly the woke choice. I give you the Brexit means Brexit football prodigy, the white Pele: Wayne Mark Rooney.
It's kind of a weird criteria though... 17 is very specific and often comes down a a bit of luck with injuries, like when Rashers broke through... If you open it up to, say, best teenager, then it would be a wider field.
Absolutely incredible player, obvious talent but to have the decision making and calm he does at 17 is insane.
Rooney is one but I think that was down to big goals rather than his pure ability at that age. Fabregas is more similar, played like a 30 year old at 16.

How tf did you manage to bring 'woke' into a discussion about a 17yr old footballer.....oh, hold on....
I have to go Rooney who, don't forget, has none of the inherent black African genes that give a huge advantage to others in the conversation. Not racist but a real thing.

The same ones that see sprint line ups largely of black origin.
The same ones that had 43% of players who had minutes in the EPL 20-21 were black.
Jeez, heavy lifting here.

How do those ‘black genes’ give footballers an huge advantage?
Rooney was great at Everton but don't think he was as influential as Yamal at the same age who was a big part of Spain winning the Euro's and is currently one of the best players on the planet with a team top of the league and favourites for the CL.
Didn't Pele win the WC at 17 and score that amazing goal in the final?

Yeah...i don't even think Rooney is on his level, Rooney was top top 17yr old but he actually LOOKED way beyond his years too, physically, which i think helped his explosion on the scene, Yamal looks like most 17yr olds but is not playing like one at all.

'Mental strength 10. Selfishness 0': Scouting report on 17-year-old Diego Maradona proves how gifted he was.
Back in 1978, Argentina's head coach Cesar Luis Menotti delivered Barcelona a scouting report on 17-year-old Diego Maradona.
It was the first-ever piece the Catalan club received about the promising teenager.
"Player Report: Diego Armando Maradona.
"Grading assessment: Very good, extraordinary.
Speed 9.5. Starting speed 9.5. With ball 9.1. Without ball 9.5. Agility 9.5. Jump power 8.
"Moral state: Mental strength 10. Power of suffering 10. Concentration 10. Selfishness 0. Personality 10.
Technique in general: Unbeatable.
Advanced technique: Extraordinary, effective, great dribbler. Excellent power. Extraordinary courage. Extraordinary efficiency. Very good shot. Great passing. Total accuracy. Complete vision. Average heading. Good leadership. Very good power to retain the ball. Extraordinary ball protection.
Tactical play: Complete intelligence in football. Complete sense for football. Good view. Very good speed in efficiency.
General conclusion: Young. Born on 30/10/1960. He has prodigious technical qualities, easy dribbling. He has a straight-line vision facing the goal, but he knows how to leave the ball for a better-placed teammate.
Extraordinary reflexes. He protects the ball very well to play it immediately with great efficiency. His short passes and shots are a pure wonder. Prodigious changes of pace.
