Nas was 17 when he dropped his Live at BBQ verse
IOAG thanks for sharing that. Imagine the thrill a scout would feel on discovering a young Maradona
Notwithstanding the above, Limahl's part in Barça's first two goals last night was just sensational.
For the first, both the mental and technical ability involved in the build up and the execution of the assist itself are stunning.
For the second, the apparent effortlessness with which he strokes -rather than strikes- the ball with that level of power and precision is pure football erotica.

'Mental strength 10. Selfishness 0': Scouting report on 17-year-old Diego Maradona proves how gifted he was.
Back in 1978, Argentina's head coach Cesar Luis Menotti delivered Barcelona a scouting report on 17-year-old Diego Maradona.
It was the first-ever piece the Catalan club received about the promising teenager.
"Player Report: Diego Armando Maradona.
"Grading assessment: Very good, extraordinary.
Speed 9.5. Starting speed 9.5. With ball 9.1. Without ball 9.5. Agility 9.5. Jump power 8.
"Moral state: Mental strength 10. Power of suffering 10. Concentration 10. Selfishness 0. Personality 10.
Technique in general: Unbeatable.
Advanced technique: Extraordinary, effective, great dribbler. Excellent power. Extraordinary courage. Extraordinary efficiency. Very good shot. Great passing. Total accuracy. Complete vision. Average heading. Good leadership. Very good power to retain the ball. Extraordinary ball protection.
Tactical play: Complete intelligence in football. Complete sense for football. Good view. Very good speed in efficiency.
General conclusion: Young. Born on 30/10/1960. He has prodigious technical qualities, easy dribbling. He has a straight-line vision facing the goal, but he knows how to leave the ball for a better-placed teammate.
Extraordinary reflexes. He protects the ball very well to play it immediately with great efficiency. His short passes and shots are a pure wonder. Prodigious changes of pace.

I feel lucky to have seen the likes of Messi, Henry, both Ronaldos, Zizou live, but Maradona has always been a favourite of mine.

I actually thought the assist for the first looked a lot better than it was, the ball bobbled and I don't think he meant the outward swerve. A fantastic assist none the less.
He is a wonderful little player though, every time I have seen him he looks years ahead of where he should be.

IOAG thanks for sharing that. Imagine the thrill a scout would feel on discovering a young Maradona
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm just about old enough to remember those days, but as I recall Maradona was very well known from a really young age. He was a sensation since well before arriving in Europe.
I can't say exactly how old he was, maybe not even in his teens yet, but I have this vague recollection of some very early footage of him coming on to exhibit his ball-juggling skills as a half-time attraction in some big game or other.
As for the scout (well, coach) who discovered him, I just found this snippet on Wikipedia:
When Diego came to Argentinos Juniors for trials, I was really struck by his talent and couldn't believe he was only eight years old. In fact, we asked him for his ID card so we could check it, but he told us he didn't have it on him. We were sure he was having us on because, although he had the physique of a child, he played like an adult. When we discovered he'd been telling us the truth, we decided to devote ourselves purely to him.
— Francisco Cornejo, youth coach who discovered Maradona
In fact, reading on, I've just seen how that vague recollection I mentioned above was actually correct:
"Maradona became a star for the Cebollitas, and as a 12-year-old ball boy he amused spectators by showing his ball skills during the halftime breaks of Argentinos Juniors' first division games."

At the risk of overhyping the kid, the way he was able to take in his surroundings on the fly, along with the vision and speed of thought and execution, are beyond the vast majority of footballers.

So for maturity and ability Yamal is pretty unique. He oozes class already and was key to Spain winning the euros.

OP
Can I remind you and everyone else that Pele was scoring a world cup hatrick in a semi final, and another two goals in the final.
Pele by a countrymile is the best ever 17 year old footballer.
Learn your history fella. Football didn't start in the last 10 years.
