Josh Tongue is a weird bowler. He bowls absolute rubbish the majority of the time and then pulls a worldy out of nowhere.

Yes but not good enough in test cricket is it, or do you disagree, the most seamer friendly conditions of the series today

I said Josh Tongue wasnt good enough before the series even started. I've always said he isn't consistent enough.

With such inconsistent Tongue action today it's no wonder we couldn't finish them off

Ahmed was 6th change in his latest game, and has bowled the most over of the 7 bowlers!

I don't think there was any play in his game yesterday. It was a complete washout.

Can we get a replacement for Woakes, injured in the line of duty.
Surely this should be allowed

posted on 1/8/25

Why should it be allowed? It never is normally.

Personally, I don't think India should have been allowed to have a sub fielder wicket keep.

Don't let facts get in the way etc

He really should be in the Ashes tour party at least but it definitely feels like chucking him in the side could ruin him

I think he should have been in for this test to be honest.

I think if we had a wrist spinner last test instead of Dawson, we'd probably have won. Dawson played it too safe the entire time and we needed the spin option to be aggressive.

Always feels like such a gamble with leggies though doesn't it. Then again he couldn't be any more feast-or-famine than Tongue and Overton have been so far this test

posted on 1/8/25

Yeah, its a difficult art. Its why Shane Warne was so ridiculous. Adil Rashid in ODI and T20 formats too.

Wrist spinners a generally more successful in Australia though. These stats are a few years old but I think since Lyon came into the Australia team he has averaged 32 with the ball in Australia in test matches and all other spinners average 61. Its a difficult place to go to try to contain, so I think you need to be aggressive with the spin option. I think that is why they prefer Bashir too, as his height allows him to extract extra bounce from the pitches there.

Worried for the remainder of this test now Woakes is out injured.

Tongue is way too inconsistent and Overton is simply crap. Basically feels like all hope is now on Atkinson or we've got to hope the batting does the business.

Yes not sure who is going to tackle the remaining 14 wickets

Tongue got wicket taking deliveries in him, just so inconsistent with no rhythm

If Tongue could bowl straight he’d be unreal

Into the tail now, India struggling

Don't know what I was worried about

How has Tongue ended up with 3/57 when 95% of his bowling was horrendous

posted on 1/8/25

Sure India's bowling will be much more accurate, interesting time for England openers

Good start to the day. Going to be tough batting. They only have three seamers though (as we do now), so its going to be about wearing them down.

I think their score is under par though to be honest.
