Ange in is the only option. The project needs to be completed. A Prem title or a CL win would cement Ange as one of the Spurs greats. He has already set the bar high with his Europa win. So surely the Prem and CL have to be the obvious next step.

Does this mean (Sandy said the europa ranks higher than EPL) that if Spurs dont win the league this year then they are in regression. Anything other than an EPL/ champ league win this year would be a step backwards.

Not one player over 200k. West Ham have six. That’s why we’re where we are. It has nothing to do with Ange and everything to do with a total lack of ambition at board level.
You can argue that it’s no guarantee of success but check the wage bill table throughout history. It’s the clearest indicator of average position in the league. Levy is taking us for a feckin ride and I’m done with the apologists now. We’re simply not spending enough to truly succeed. So much for the stadium game changer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Levy is your real world Montgomery Burns or Ebenezer Scrooge. He's those fictional misers you get come to life. A control freak who wants himself to get richer and everyone else around him to get poorer.
Although it's not why we're in 17th place. That's more on the manager. It's why we've been an underachieving team all those years under his ownership though.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Spurs have just won the 2nd biggest European club trophy under his ownership. Nothing like posting total nonsense. How many other owners in Britain have won either the CL or Europa under their ownership in the past 25 years. You can count them on one hand. If anything Levy is in a very small band of successful Chairmen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Out of interest Sandy, if we hadn't won the Europa, would you still be fully supportive of Ange?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I would. Two seasons is not long enough. Modern thing is to

Modern thing is to sack managers after a year or so. Ridiculous. Managers need three seasons minimum. I was not in favour of sacking any of our recent managers. None were given long enough.
If after three or four seasons not delivered, then I would have no problem in advocating change.

Just because all posters don't agree with your point of view, then that doesn't make them a WUM. Difficult to know your point of view. You keep flip flopping. You said you hated Ange, and he was Spurs worse ever manager. Now you want to keep him.

We beat the worst Man United in decades, who finished 16th, Bodo Glimt, and a Frankfurt who lost their best player to City before playing us. Are they better than those teams Newcastle beat?

Plus Arsenal failed to win the FA Cup this season, who knocked them out at the Emirates? Answer: "the worst Man United in decades"
Cup games are one off games. Yes, Newcastle beat Liverpool on their day but so did Spurs.
If winning a cup was as simple as the best team always wins then it would never be any great achievement. If football was as easy as "the best team on paper wins" then no one would watch it.
Anything can happen in a one off game/tie as the likes of Lazio found out against Bodo, and Bilbao found out against "the worst Man United in decades" and Liverpool found out vs Plymouth.
To break down a cup success to some desktop assessment of the competing teams relative strength is to not understand football.

Indeed. It's a list of managers that also includes Ange himself.
Better teams lose to weaker teams at times. It happens. The teams we played in the Europa weren't exactly top draw and United were on a similar playing field to us.
It's not just the level of competition anyway, as I keep saying there were other factors, such as only having the Europa competition to focus on this time. This is an issue that has plagued previous managers, where they've been involved in challenging for top 4 etc. because they didn't fall off the cliff in the league and then weren't subsequently sacked by Levy.
The new format I think helped - see how Celtic got further in the CL than they normally do without a group stage. Plus a sprinkle of luck in the final which you always need. Under Poch in the CL final we had a handball in the first minute, in the final with Ange we score a lucky own goal. It wasn't some clinic we put on against them like PSG over Inter, for example. You might think it was the way some fans overrate Ange on the back of it.
Fair play to Ange, he beat the teams in front of him and that's all you can do but let's not kid ourselves that it was this huge achievement. Sometimes you have competitions or leagues when they're not as strong in certain seasons and it presents a better opportunity than usual. That was one of those occasions.
"The new format I think helped - see how Celtic got further in the CL than they normally do without a group stage. Plus a sprinkle of luck in the final which you always need. Bang on this....
If winning the Europa Cup was so easy why haven't we won it for 41 years?
Ah that's right concentrating on the league. So I take it we have won a league in the last 41 years then?
Downplaying the competition because of the opposition doesn't explain why we didn't make it out of the group stages containing PAOK, Rubin Kazan and Shamrock Rovers in 2011/12 (the top two go through!)
It doesn't explain why we went out to Basel in 2012/13.
Or to Gent in 2016/17.
These are just a few, we hadn't got past the quarter final stages of the Europa.
Spurs have been known in their recent history as not getting over the line. Ange got us over the line, you can call it lucky if you want but like he says he always wins things in his second season and he was right.
I have noticed the posters that wanted rid of him calling him useless and a fraud earlier in the season are now trying to downplay what he has achieved.
Sorry to tell you fellas but whether Ange goes now or in the future he will go down as a legend at Spurs for this achievement alone.

Rubbish.
Celtic qualified as 21st in a league of 36 and ended up in an extra round of KOs and got KO'd. SO in old money, they didnt get out of the group and into the round of 16.
To treat our win as just a lucky goal is also ridiculous. What did we do after taking the lead? We shut up shop. That was the game plan with a team shorn of its 3 best creative midfielders (is that lucky??), and we did it with relative ease, defending superbly as a team, offering United very little and keeping them at arm's length for the most part.
You see a lucky win, I see a fortunate goal and a perfectly executed game plan in circumstances where we couldn't go toe to toe with them or try to school them with beautiful attacking football. I see a display that got us over the line when many before have failed. All season fans attack Ange for no Plan B, suicide football, can't grind out a win, cannot organise a defence...then we show many of these qualities in the pressure of a cup final and its all "well we were lucky and Utd are shiiit"
We didnt lose to Liverpool because we were unlucky. We had 89 minutes to get back in that game, barely threatened them and didnt score. We played poorly and did not have the game plan to get back in it. People still question Poch's selection and his substitutions, and rightly so!
Ange got the job done and for any Spurs fan who has watched countless managers try and fail, seen the rise of Spursy and general mockery of this club, should understand getting the job done is way more than some "on paper" exercise. It has become a huge mountain for us to overcome, hence the out pouring of total joy at the end

Sorry to tell you fellas but whether Ange goes now or in the future he will go down as a legend at Spurs for this achievement alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well even though Ange exceeded my expectations in winning the Europa, I was commenting that it was a weaker competition before we actually won it, so at least I'm being consistent. I was never suddenly going to become Ange in on the basis of him winning it, which I've seen from some anti-Ange fans out there.
As I've said numerous times, Ange had a free hit in being able to focus fully on the Europa, something not afforded to those managers when they went out of it in those examples you gave. I mean, don't get me wrong, we should have done better in those years but when you have a top 4 challenge in the background, obviously it complicates things. Last season was one rare example when a manager only had one egg left to throw into the basket in terms of a cup competition. You can't tell me that's doesn't at least give some advantage?

"The new format I think helped - see how Celtic got further in the CL than they normally do without a group stage. Plus a sprinkle of luck in the final which you always need. Under Poch in the CL final we had a handball in the first minute, in the final with Ange we score a lucky own goal. It wasn't some clinic we put on against them like PSG over Inter, for example. You might think it was the way some fans overrate Ange on the back of it".
Bang on this....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When the whole format has changed it's going to make some difference to the performance of clubs. If you're a lesser team put into a tough group, I fancy your chances less than I would being given a handful of random teams to play.
Ange himself struggled with Celtic in the group stages. Didn't even qualify into it the one season after he lost to Midgetland at home.
Since we're talking managers, then Poch was unlucky that a player gave away a pen in the first minute against a very good Liverpool team by the way and Ange was lucky that our goal came from a lucky mishap against a poor United team, or a team we were at least on a level playing field with throughout the season.
Yeah the plan B and that style of play is where I give him credit. Fair play. I do acknowledge that he did well, but there is a reason myself and others might be downplaying the achievement, a pretty big reason in fact that we haven't brought up - him losing all those games in the league.

Fact is we would have been a top tier team so would have been against 3 inferior teams in the group under the old format. Probably win the group and be against one of the worst qualifying teams and then possibily one of the UCL drop outs in the next round....and based on 23/24 season that could have been Braga, Milan, Young Boys, Shaktar, Feyenoord, Lens, Benfica, Galatasaray. You cannot tell me that any of those teams are any better than the top teams that made it to the Europa QFs this season. This notion that it was easy this year and tough before the new format isnt really true.
UCL rejects have only won the cup 8 times in 24 years.
Folk like you were predicting our exit after a 1st leg defeat to AZ, draw to Frankfurt and you were far from positive of overcoming Bodo on their plastic pitch and a United team who "know how to get over the line".
Its just negative spin after negative spin from you. You say we're going get beaten, we win and then you say "well its a week comp any way"

I've found it hard to not be negative with the way the season was panning out. When we won the cup it was a good job but for me, unlike many others, it just papered over cracks.
Away goals being done away with is another change that has come into play in the game. Together with the new format it's a different dynamic to European football than usual.
I'm not saying it's easier now than it used to be overall, I don't know, but like I said already, some seasons whether in the past or present, present better opportunities than others. The quality of the European competitions can change from a season to the next, just like the league can. There shouldn't be much argument that the league season wasn't particularly strong this season, yet we had a nightmare in it. This may well have given us an advantage in winning the trophy, just as it did the last time we were truly poor in the league under Ramos.
A United team that know how to get it over the line....
They've lost in the final of this comp twice...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if he gets credit for us winning the Europa, I suppose he should receive criticism for all that time we went trophyless, right? All that time of being nearly mean, that's on Levy?
Or are you going to change the goalposts just to defend Levy like you usually do?
If Ange is sacked, who you think is doing a great job and just won a trophy for us, are you going to blame Levy for it?

Modern thing is to sack managers after a year or so. Ridiculous. Managers need three seasons minimum. I was not in favour of sacking any of our recent managers. None were given long enough.
If after three or four seasons not delivered, then I would have no problem in advocating change.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if he gets credit for us winning the Europa, I suppose he should receive criticism for all that time we went trophyless, right? All that time of being nearly mean, that's on Levy?
Or are you going to change the goalposts just to defend Levy like you usually do?
If Ange is sacked, who you think is doing a great job and just won a trophy for us, are you going to blame Levy for it?
Or again are you going to change the goalposts just to defend Levy like you usually do?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Stop deflecting. Name me half a dozen Chairmen in Britain that have won European silverware this century. You cannot can you? Levy is one of the very few.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sandy is already in the mental care home, don't you know?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Paid your bet Ted? Don't bet if you are not going to honour the bet. You are already gobbling off about Spurs going to get relegated.

The answer to yours is all the other big teams (which is what we're supposed to be) apart from Arsenal. How many of those big teams went trophyless for 17 years though?
Also, is it not fair to say the Europa was easier to win than domestic cups this season? Newcastle beat Chelsea, Fulham, Arsenal and Liverpool in order to win the League Cup. We beat the worst Man United in decades, who finished 16th, Bodo Glimt, and a Frankfurt who lost their best player to City before playing us. Are they better than those teams Newcastle beat?

The list of managers that have failed to get past inferior teams to win trophies is much much longer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeh the supporters that wanted Ange out are seething that Ange finally got Spurs over the line, where so many previous Spurs managers have failed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So if he gets credit for us winning the Europa, I suppose he should receive criticism for all that time we went trophyless, right?
You are already gobbling off about Spurs going to get relegated.

he gave the money to Grinch but you refused to meet up with AVE so gave up any right to such winnings

I gave much more to the WWF so that in helping animals it might also help Sandy
