I'd say the whole thing is horrific for the player/s in the England team that would suffer racist abuse for missing a pen or even just playing for your country but I'd probs wager that a lot of the online abuse was by people who have never went to an England game and just are the sort of Uber bastirts that throw racial abuse at anyone for anything never mind football?

Even if she literally came out and said "I would have preferred us to lose, with white girls missing penalties, than Lauren James get a torrent of racist abuse" I'd still be empathetic to the fact that the racist abuse she received played on her mind so much that she would rather her dream be crushed than see a friend go through it too.

Any other response would seem like that of someone who has zero empathy, a trait of a psychopath.

Yes, as I said in the article she suffered great abuse and it was quite the situation to be in, with the affects of the abuse on her mental health clear for everyone to see.
However, if she said it that way it would have been far better. Using terms that divide two groups of players based on race is not the best way to tackle racism.
