Well done Chelsea

Seems quite an odd thing to do. Is he connected to the club in any way?

His family will certainly not be short of money following Jota's death.

Seems like an attention seeking PR move.

Pretty much 99.99% of other families in the world would be in more need of the money.

Is this in fact, the WORST gesture any club as ever made?

Great gesture but I kind of agree with this.

A large number of Palestinian footballers have been murdered but no care for them even from rich Saudi leagues.

Great gesture from the Chelsea players

This so called gesture may well mark the low point in human history. It may even be so low and so non-human that it may not even be classed as human history.

The lessons it teaches our children may never be undone.

Chelsea FC’s decision to donate part of their Club World Cup bonus to the family of deceased Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva—while widely praised—can be seen as a hollow, performative gesture that reeks of PR opportunism rather than genuine compassion. Jota, a wealthy international footballer with no ties to Chelsea, left behind a family already financially secure and deeply embedded in Liverpool’s support system. So why would Chelsea, a rival club, step in with a cheque?

This move feels less like solidarity and more like spectacle—a calculated act designed to harvest praise and headlines. It teaches our children that grief can be soothed with money, that tragedy is a branding opportunity, and that empathy is best expressed through grand gestures rather than quiet dignity. In a world where football clubs wield immense influence, this sets a dangerous precedent: that virtue is measured in pounds, not principles. Instead of fostering genuine human connection, it risks turning mourning into marketing, and remembrance into reputation management.

Shame on you Chelsea.

PSG to step in with a £2m donation, double that of Chelsea's £1m donation.

I am hearing though that Saudi Arabia's Newcastle are to blow those two clubs out of the water with a £10m donation to Diogo Jota's family.

Really, really classy gesture that from Saudi Arabia. They are actually good guys. I initially thought they were bad, for you know, the atrocities. But turns out they are actually really good.

Over to you Elon.

Oxfam, a charity who have come under scrutiny in recent years for their practices, have agreed to divert all of their donations away from poverty stricken areas, to the family of Diogo Jota instead.

A really classy move from them. They are actually alright!

Please accept my apology and fifty quid donated to Jota's family on my behalf. I consider the matter closed.

Jota's family are getting around £20m already from Liverpool following Jota's death.

How can you possibly feel that this is a logical and worthy use of money from Chelsea FC instead of more worthy causes?

H Von H bloke, perhaps you could explain whilst up on your high horse, constructed of stupidity and ignorance?
