Mainoo wants out!

I would suggest he's been told no because they know his big problem in Amorim is about to be given the boot during the international break.

If we allow the actions of players to continue to determine the tenure of our managers then we continue to spiral downwards imo.

I don't want him to go, but what does it say about his character?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It says a lot about his character… he’d prefer to play football than sit on a bench collecting money… if you want to talk about character. lol at Sancho
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said to Darren, it's not a choice between the two, either just sitting on the bench or going somewhere else to play. Why is it being reported that the manager/club don't want him going out on loan?? Clearly he's needed and he is part of the manager's plan and will get opportunities. His job is to take those and show what he's capable of. Also to show the same thing to the manager in training.

Mainoo played 22 PL matches under Amorim last season. Ugarte I think was roughly the same. Casemiro played14. Of course there are factors within that including Bruno not being in CM, and rotations because we were in Europe and domestic cups. But it shows he's not frozen out in the manager's mind and has as much chance of pushing for that CM place as anyone. I'll also add there's no guarantee he'll play much when he goes out on loan.

I wouldn't compare him to Sancho, and in terms of attitude there is a difference. Sancho is an arrogant, selfish p41Ck who couldn't give a 5h1t about the club. That's not at all what I think about Mainoo. At all! My disappointment is that he lacks the fight and determination.

He’s needed… yes… to fit in the bench in case Bruno gets injured

City would have given him 30 minutes of first team football, sold him to Chelsea, where he would have been one of 11 young centre midfielders and played three matches before being flipped for a 20% mark up.

It's a reason I like Rasmus. He wanted to stay and play for his place.

Meh, they would have sold him to a German club with a massive sell-on clause like Sancho if he didn’t make the grade

Yep very much so and I think/hope Zirkzee will do the same.

Rasmus wasn't competing against a player the manager clearly deems undroppable though.

I'm kind of astounded that the kid is getting piled on just for daring to want to play some football.

I've no issue with Kobbie wanting to play. It's just the timing that's a bid odd IMO. So close to the end of the window there's no way we let him go unless one or two are coming in. IMO I think he needs to fight a bit more and demand that starting spot next to Bruno. It's not like there are stellar options there.

Having said the above I wouldn't be against him going out on loan to play if we sign a player or two. If that Baleba deal is still on loan Mainoo to Brighton perhaps. I'd also look at Conor Gallagher's situation at Atleti. Apparently they need to move someone non EU on because of those rules. Possibly a good option on loan?

It's also quite interesting, IMO, that United's social media accounts (usually very busy promoting something or other) haven't posted anything since Wednesday night. Just one share from the Women's team. That's not a good sign usually.

There's been noise about him wanting a loan all summer, from what I can remember. I guess seeing his games further limited by the cup knockout might have led him to ask the question... and that's all it seems he has done, asked about the possibility of a loan.

Yes, perhaps. Maybe it has also been taken out of context a bit too. It could be Kobbie stating "Well, if I'm not playing here I'm willing to go out on loan as I want to play". It would leave us very short though in there which is why I think the timing is odd. Could also be a contract tactic too I suppose.

Sounds like he wants to still be a United player but wants minutes so asked for the loan. He’s 20 and hasn’t yet established himself as a guaranteed starter, maybe he should knuckle down and earn a spot. I’m guessing the contract negotiations not going to plan are affecting things too but again he isn’t established enough to warrant the wages he’s been reportedly after.

However talented Mainoo is, it’s exactly this sort of attitude we need to eradicate from the club.

posted on 29/8/25

Certainly traits of a young Pogba about Mainoo. However, he is a full international and probably the best option as an effective central midfield player the club currently has in the crazy way that the manager wants his team to play.

Dunno, pogba for all his faults had far more ability and vision than mainoo does. Unless it’s the attitude you are talking about, and even then I don’t think mainoo has a bad attitude. He just wants to play

I think Pogba at that time thought just like Mainoo. He wants to play games... and earn more money.... NOW!

posted on 29/8/25

I don't blame Mainoo at all, there's no sign of him getting decent game time when the manager (and his tactics) have pitted him directly against the captain who rarely gets injured/rested.

Sitting on the bench won't help him continue to develop as a player or get him on the plane for the summer.

He doesn't want to leave the club, he wants to play football and I have no problem with his stance, I support it.

posted on 29/8/25

He maybe also thinks Amorim won’t be around after his loan and a different managers system might accommodate him. We’d still need to bring more mobility and energy into CM which Mainoo doesn’t and will always go against him as a top quality CM (in the PL at least).

Far more ability than Mainoo at 20? I'm not sure about that, mate.

At 20, they both are/were looking like young, very highly promising progressive midfielders comfortably ahead of the vast majority of their peers.

I wouldn't put much between them, tbh.

Nothing wrong with a youngster wanting playing time imo, if Amorim doesn't see him fitting in our system it could be best all round. I don't want him to leave, he has potential (although I think people go overboard).

However bad we were against Grimsby, I felt Mainoo's style of player was a clearly better fit than Bruno in the role when we had possession, he had some loose passes but he progresses the ball far better.
