The on field decision was free kick outside the box...only reason for VAR to get involved and recommend a review is if they think the ref has made a clear and obvious error in not giving a penalty....so the VAR actually thought it was a penalty and called the ref over.....he looked at it and in the end, he didn't even feel it was a free kick...takes a strong ref make such calls.
If the initial decision was penalty.....VAR wouldn't have got involved or recommended a review...so it would have been given

I watched the game.
So Var checked the handball and told the ref it was actually in the box. Therefore should have been a penalty.
Var then called the referee over to have a look as in Var opinion the handball was harsh ( like ralstons ) and the referee agreed with them.
So how would they not get involved?
And the pen last night was more of a handball than ralstons.
https://www.thisisanfield.com/2025/11/liverpool-read-madrid-handball-overturned-drop-ball-rule-explained/
all explained there
“Kovacs likely felt Tchouameni’s arm was further out, but when the ball hit the hand of the Real Madrid player he had it very close to the body, with no horizontal barrier being created.
