Your preaching to the converted rover, but as long as trap is in charge, well do I need to go on.
Decent players yes, but are they really going to move us forward at international level?
Flair players aren't always the way forward you know, especially when they've played most of their career in League 1 and championship like the above two.
Look at Scotland, they have a much classier looking midfield than us with some real premiership quality, yet they STILL can't even manage a playoff spot.
If we had a top 4 club midfielder, like Roy Keane 10 years ago, to build our midfield around, I'd say lets play a more attacking game, but in the absence of that I say Trap's style is definitely wisest given the level of our midfield quality.
People can rattle on as much as they like about McCarthy, Wilson, Hoolahan etc... but they're hardly world class now are they?
What like whelan, andrews are.
What I'm saying Igor, is that all of our midfielders at the moment, whelan, andrews included, are mediocre premiership quality.
Some of them slightly better than others, but still nowhere near good enough to play for a top 4 side.
If you haven't got champions league quality in your team anywhere, then why play a loose, open game? It's suicide.
This system gets RESULTS and ultimately RESULTS are all that matters at international level.
You'll soon find that out when Trap leaves and gets replaced by some chancer next year who has no idea how to organise the team or keep a clean sheet.
I never knew Pilkington was elligible for us until he hit the headlines this weekend.
He has already been capped for us at U21 level but hasn't yet actually declared for the senior side.
yes would love to see that but trap seem to want to sick with the team all time. wee need them likes of players in to giv that bit of creative in the mid and i tink houlihan is a player wee need. trap has done a good job but after euro wat ever happens tink wee need someone else in to try different.
there another player will be there soon aidan white of leeds plays both letf back also left mid at moment he been playing very well as a left back another year or 2 he should be in
Irish fools still looking back to the golden day when Roy Keane was there to bully all around him. By that I mean referees and their assistants.
Keane, like his manager bullied and ranted at everyone within earshot. If every team had a Roy Keane football would have been banned in most Countries.
Your lot were quite happy to have him, probably the last time ye won that tin-pot league ya plank.
As for scotland, joke team, joke country.
"As for scotland, joke team, joke country."
Can you explain why you support the Irish national team and an English club?
Which one's the embarrassment to you, the Irish league or the English national team?
Poor lad.
Well im not a plastic fan, I travel home and away regular, as for irish league, its still better standard that your cr@p but hey at least with your name looks as though you support someone half decent.
"Well im not a plastic fan, I travel home and away regular,"
Big deal. You can call Scotland a joke country when Ireland have some clubs worth supporting, until then stick to your favourite English teams. D'you watch cricket too?
"as for irish league, its still better standard that your cr@p"
Aye, the Irish League's so good you'd rather watch the English Championship.
Gimme a shout when an Irish club gets anywhere in europe or starts producing players for its national side, then we can chat.
Blimey, starts off nice, then deteriorates, and isn't 'give impartiality' an Irish fan anyway, not Scottish? (not that I have any problem with sScottish fans)
Maybe Igor supports an English side because he lives there, much as I do, in fact.
Anyway, back on topic - Larry may say Trap's system is the way to go, fact is, he knows no other way, time he went IMO.
As a Norwich fan, Hoolahan should be at least a squad player. A class act who shouldn't be ignored. Pilks is on fire, but as has been said, hasn't made his mind up yet regarding nationality!
Shamrock rovers, europa league @ present, played spurs couple weeks back.
How many scots teams?
Zero!
"Check your facts bro!"
Are you being serious?
Celtic are in the group stages of the Europa league, Einstein. The difference is this is the first time an Irish team has ever got to the group stages, while Rangers, Celtic, Hearts and Aberdeen have all been there and beyond, and there's a Scottish side there every season.
I think you'll find it's more important to Scotland, as Ireland has a few sports that are more important than football. As big as you think you are, Scotland have produced nothing in Europe for ages. Ok Einstein?
And celtic only there through default.
"I think you'll find it's more important to Scotland, as Ireland has a few sports that are more important than football. As big as you think you are, Scotland have produced nothing in Europe for ages."
I don't think Scotland are "big", I'm simply pointing out that an Irish football fan is in no position to describe Scotland as a joke nation, and that statements like this:
"as for irish league, its still better standard that your cr@p"
...are absolute nonsense.
As a Celtic and Ireland fan, im embarassed by BarcelonaNil. Firstly by a complete lack of knowledge.
"Gimme a shout when an Irish club gets anywhere in europe" - Not much to say here. Other than a couple of uefa cup final appearances, there isnt much to go on in the last 20 yrs.
"or starts producing players for its national side, then we can chat." - now this is complete nonsense. Many of irelands players haev come through the LOI.
Scottish clubs' record in Europe is immeasurably superior to that of Irish clubs. That was the extent of my point, and it's an indisputable fact.
2 Uefa Cup Final appearances in the last 10 years may jot be much to shout about, but it's light-years beyond what any Irish club has achieved.
Of course most irish players start off at Irish clubs, but how many get caps while at Irish clubs?
My point, which I am happy to repeat as many times as necessary is that this statement:
"as for irish league, its still better standard that your cr@p"
...is absolute garbage.
Not meant, but hit the mark, over and out.
