'Was obviously never going to be sold as he's been ahead of Smalling all season.'
Even Evans has said he was lucky to still be at the club this year, and most people would accept another season like last year would have meant he was gone. I'm amazed you dont think that's the case.
As for always getting picked ahead of Smalling, you do realise Smalling was playing right back, a position Evans couldn't play, so that doesnt mean Evans is therefore seen as better.
IMO Smalling is definitely a better player than Evans and has more potential as well. If our right back was sorted i.e. no need for Smalling to play there, and Vidic was fit, then our back two would be Rio and Vidic or Vidic and Smalling, it wouldn't have been Evans and Vidic by first choice, but fair play to Evans he's grabbed his chance.
Evans has played ahead of Smalling and Jones at cb all season.
Take from that what you will. In my opinion it's a clear indication that Evans is ahead of the two.
In your 'opinion' that isn't the case. But I have the facts to backup my point.
You say last 3 seasons, but in reality Evans had a very good 09/10 season. People were raving about him then.
In any case his attributes have been clear despite the mistakes. It's only natural to expect lapses of concentration to diminish as a player gains experience.
Also noticed in December you were saying you'd rather see Smalling and Jones at cb than Evans.
The last few games for United that Evans did miss, United conceded 8 goals. 3 against Blackburn and 3 against Newcastle. Coincidence? I think not.
Smalling is miles better than evans.
Smallings just unlucky that he was deemed good enough to play an unfamiliar position otherwise he would probably be first choice cb.
