Derks-
you need to be of a particular religon to actually PLAY the "sport" -well thats an incorrect statement for a start.

Already some GAA clubs hold political rallys -clearly sport and politics do mix ,hence this board.

A ref was head butted in a "ladies" GAA game -would you be complaining if it had been Alan Snoddy?

Fair points, sure there's never any incidents of violence in football games. Yes football is a true gentlemans sport played and watched by well behaved sporting young men.

Former NIreland goalkeeper and legend Pat Jennings has always said that its thanks to the fact he played Gaelic Football while at school that he turned out to be a great keeper.
Derek, i suspect that you are a bit envious of the fact that the GAA get bigger crowds to their matches than both the Irish League sides and even the NIreland football side. More media coverage as well

More media coverage than the NI football side?!?!? gaa is a thugs sport and NI football is far more successful on the world stage, the fans have even won awards while the gaa hoods have been busy headbutting referees and celebrating terrorists

How exactly is NI Football succesful on the world stage???

Bit of a generalisation there about the GAA fans in fairness.

I could do the same and label all the NIreland fans as bigots and thugs as well after witnessing the sectarian chanting and intimidation of locals in Dublin before NIrelands 3-0 defeat to Scotland earlier this year

To see such bitterness from our Irish brothers in 2011 is truly sad. It this sort of mentality that sees Loyalist paramilitaries still feeling the need to attack small Nationalist enclaves like the Short Strand to let them know ‘Marching Season’ is upon us. Please children, leave your hate behind, you're only damaging yourselves.

On the subject of NIreland fans causing trouble in Dublin last February (which a lot of NIreland fans actually deny happening) Here is the content of a report from the Evening Herald.
" GARDAI in full riot gear descended on Dublin 4 last night as Union Jack clad loyalists caused mayhem on the streets.

The shocking scenes have sparked increased security for Ireland's clash with Northern Ireland on May 23.

Thousands of hardline Unionists forced pubs and businesses to close early and had residents running for their homes as they stirred up a tense atmosphere in D4.

Some fans were involved in a stand-off with riot gardai, who managed to contain the group, as they spat anti-Irish chants and yelled obscenities at passers-by.

The scenes, reminiscent of the 1995 mayhem when English fans forced the abandonment of an Ireland-England match, took place before last night's Carling Home Nations Cup match between Northern Ireland and Scotland.

From early, boozed-up soccer fans caused mayhem in the heart of the leafy suburb as they took to the streets for a lengthy, out-of-control drinking session.

Hours before the game, thousands of fans began streaming into Dublin from the North, by car, train and bus.

Labour councillor Kevin Humphreys told the Herald residents he spoke to afterwards were "very upset and distressed" by the experience

I meant MORE successful than gaa, which it is given it is only played in one country. Surely if garlic games were any good they would be at least played in more than 1 country by now??

You could say the same about American Football .

Personally i prefer Football (association) as a sport to both Hurling and Gaelic Football but i can still appreciate that you need high levels of fitness and skill in order to reach the top level in both GAA games.

As for calling for GAA sports to be banned because of a fracas at a Ladies match. That suggestion is laughable.

DEREK:
"Some GAA clubs hold political rallies to celebrate dead terrorists and even name trophies after them" >>>>>>>>>> Is this actually true? If so, I doubt if Sam Maguire(a good Prod) would approve !

CP:
I see despite your doctors recommendations to move to a more congenial climate like ja606, you are still suffering from your own unique strain of sectarian leprosy!

To make things worse your bi-polar afflicted grip on reality, caused by years of brainwashing, seems to be actually getting worse. Surely you meant to say:

"It is this sort of mentality that sees the already substantial and steadily growing Nationalist area of Short Strand continue its campaign of almost daily attacks against its poorer Loyalist neighbours, particularly the elderly, in the hope of intimidating them out of their homes and freeing up more housing for the carefully planned Nationalist expansion."

Remember Cuan Place, anyone? Well guess what - they're still trying to do it !

The PSNI are liars then Shen?

I wouldnt say liars. Probably just victims of con artists!
Though, after a while you begin to wonder if this sort of misinformation is not, in fact, planned.

I come from a loving two up two down(no bathroom) ghetto home myself and proud of it! One of the things it taught me was, you can say what you like about the working class, but there are certain things which they are much more up to speed on than their more elevated citizens. One of these is is what I would term, "Street life and events".

If you really want to know what went on at Short Strand recently, dont ask political representatives, gullible journalists or govt. officials. Take the risk and go down to the area yourself. Elicit opinions from ordinary folk on both sides in private. The truth will invariably become clear to you. Remember, all our actions are simply reactions to other actions, so make sure you get chronology right!

These people seem to know what is going on through their own respective brand of coal face bush telegraph. They know it like they know which dog or horse is going to win, or who is pregnant and with whom, or who will be walking back if Big Ally goes up the entry with Sammy the Goose.

Yeah because there is no GAA clubs in England,Scotland,Argentina,Canada and all over America. Basically places where Irish immirgation has been high you will find GAA clubs.

^^^^^^^^^^dude there are probably more overseas players of conkers than GAA lol....................

Back to the subject of the thread, hopefully the PSNI catch and jail the thugs who attacked the referee, and hopefully the GAA ban them for life from playing, watching or any involvement with GAA...................

GAA grassroots has problems with mental people attacking referees. But no more so than grassroots football. In fact just the other weekend I saw a referee in a sunday league game in London get punched. Then he tried to call off the game but the guy who punched him wouldnt let him get up from the ground until he agreed to restart the game......and everyone just stood around not helping......Myself and a friend tried to help the ref but were held back by the aggresor's team mates!! Police were finally called.

Can anyone answer a question for me please.

Which of the following get the largest attendances
Football - Irish league matches and NIreland home games
GAA - Ulster Championship matches
Rugby - Ulster Rugby Heineken cup matches.

Godfather again has embarrassed himself on this board by trying to claim gaa has been successful outside of the free state and Northern Ireland
