Premier League or Champions League?

I have heard the play-offs is a 'Mickey Mouse' format of gaining promotion but isn't this the exactly how the Champions League is played? League format - Two-legged then a one-off final with penalties. Perhaps 'at the end of the day' the CL turns into a 'Mickey Mouse' format compared to winning the League.

I don't think anyone can argue that the League is the bigger trophy and priority to players and managers. The only people who may disagree are teams like Liverpool, who have no chance of ever winning the league but could conceviably slip in to the Champions league and then win a knockout tournament the following year. Hold on a minute, didn't they already do that in 2005?

the best team wins the league, the luckiest team wins the cup. therefore winning the league is a true reflection of a great team. however the two occasions that i've witnessed united winning the champions league, one of which i was present at, have been the most euphoric feelings i have ever experienced whilst supporting the club.

PL for me is the bread and butter, a true reflection on who is best

"the best team wins the league, the luckiest team wins the cup"

Yeah, trying telling that to the league clubs who dominated the Champions Cup from 1978-85.

Compared to them, Man Utd have only one the thing once.

If you said to me what would you prefer to win every year i would say the cl but also win the league on top. 07-08 season for example winning the champions league was such a great feeling that is more special as its not like winning the leagur consistently.

Winning the cl you have to beat barcelona chelsea etc

between 78-85 the 'champions cup' was totally defunct. liverpool reached the final one year playing just three teams and around the same time notts forest faced part timers in the final. winning the 'champions cup' at that time and claiming it made you the best team in europe is akin to winning the modern day league cup and claiming it makes you the best team in england.

Bitter much.

manchester united are english football's most successful club, so no.

The part time team that Forest played in the first round of the 78-79 European Cup was......................

.............Liverpool.

Forest played Malmo in the final.

The CL easily. Winning the CL means that you're the best team in Europe and probably the world. Nothing beats that.

Ole_1999 hates the fact that united have never dominated both on a domestic front and european front

Hates it

And it shows in this thread

As a chelsea fan weve won the league three times in the last decade and after coming tantalizingly close to winning the champions league only to see it slip thrpugh pur grasp, i would have to say the champions league

posted on 15/4/12

Both are great but the feeling of barca and Moscow was very speical. You have to remember some great teams have never won it and are desperate to claim big ears, so for me the champions league is number 1.......unless you were going for number 19 which for us last season was far more important than winning number 4!

Metro.......huh???? Never dominated at home or abroad. What was 99 and 08 then????

posted on 15/4/12

now you are dreaming. we were trailblazing across europe in the 50's when liverpool were still in the second division and were the first english team to win the european cup. liverpool have still never got over it.

posted on 15/4/12

So its now all about who won it first ??

The goal posts are clearly being shifted here

posted on 15/4/12

we'd also have won it on a yearly basis in the late 50's, early 60's but for the crash.

Disagree. The best team does not always win, it's quite rare that they do.

Right, so we're predicting trophies now

You sad and silly little boy.

You were only born in the last 20 years so your only knowledge of football is sky tv
