Premier League or Champions League?

"And it shows in this thread"

It does indeed.

I wouldn't mind either but I prefer CL as Arsenal can't be called a great club until they have won that title at least once!!!!

I'm sure this is on Wenger's mind.
Also what is missing is back to back PL, and how can I forget the Carling Cup!!!

"As a chelsea fan weve won the league three times in the last decade and after coming tantalizingly close to winning the champions league only to see it slip thrpugh pur grasp, i would have to say the champions league"

Only recent PLwinners can say thus.
At least in days of yore the only entry criteria were defending champions or league winner.

premier league every time, and for the same reasons that supergoon posted

The Champions League meant more when you had to be a champion to enter it.

Metro

Nothing odd in that at all, we are cultured down here and we understand stuff.

You northern dole bludgers would do better to stop your stereotyping and get back down t' pit

Metro, most United fans have said the PL too. No shock Liverpool fans say the CL as they have never won the PL, and United overtook them in domestic titles.

Bitter...

Surely it's gotta be PL then CL? Horse before the cart

Personally, I'd take the Champions League over the Premier League. However, that's mostly because Arsenal have never won it before (no London club ever has) whereas we obviously have one the PL, and I just think 'Champions of Europe' has more of a ring to it than 'Champions of England'. Winning the PL would still be brilliant though, no doubt about it, a very close second, but my personal preference would be for the CL.

Put it this way: if Madrid won La Liga and Barca won the Champions League, I'd consider Madrid as having had the better year while Barca won a damn good consolation prize.

Btw, I can't understand why most Arsenal and Chelsea fans are saying they'd rather win the PL, and most Liverpool fans are saying they'd rather win the CL. Surely the greater hunger and desire should be for your club to win what they've never won before? Just my view.

Liverpool's five times argument is a joke. If they hadn't got us all banned from Europe in the eighties the chances are Liverpool would probably have at least another two European cups to add to their honours because their side in the late eighties was so dominant. So we'd be in a situation now where they'd be shouting " Seven or eight times to our three".

However, as has been stated, winning the European cup in it's old format to what it is now is totally uncomparable. It's far harder to win now but still far easier than a 38 game league season.

Trust me, if that were to happen, Barca would be the happier of the two. The CL is much more important to both teams.

Not when the teams in the CL are of a far higher standard than those in the PL. Madrid or Barca would walk the PL, Bayern would probably win it too.

When you're the only 2 clubs contesting your domestic league every season then you do need something else to argue about.

La Liga is a bit of a different situation - the league's only ever really contested by two teams.

The PL is in my opinion more competitive and a reflection of being the best team over 38 games - which truly tests your team and manager to the fullest.

The CL, as with any cup competition, can be largely affected by the draws you get and harsh defeats on penalties or away goals. It might have more glory in it but as Liverpool proved a one-off game is anyone's.

Basically, you can win a cup with luck but the league comes down to being the best all round team.

While I agree that winning the PL is the more physically demanding of the two, winning the CL requires the greater talent and ability. Ties are over two legs, not just one-off games, giving the outcomes greater legitimacy, and luck of the draw can only get you so far in the competition, you're going to face one of the top teams eventually.

yes la liga is so poor that a spanish club will win the champions league, the europa league and their national team will more than likely retain the european championship. sometimes i just have to laugh at your posts boris.

Spain won't win the Euro Championships.

A cursory scan of the Liverpool and Forest ties during the golden years suggests luck of the draw does not come into it. You had to play and defeat at least two decent sides to win it.

I'd love for Arsenal to win the CL at least once. From then on I would prioritise the league.
