Former Arsenal, Crystal Palace and England defender Kenny Sansom has been diagnosed with a form of dementia.

Sansom, 62, has Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, a type of brain disorder and form of dementia that is "reversible and treatable".

He was admitted to hospital in May but is now out and "settled in new accommodation".

In a statement, Crystal Palace said Sansom is in the "early stages of the illness".

"With the support of his family and carers, he is on the first steps of his road to recovery," the club said. "Those closest to him are encouraged by his progress and the positive attitude he is showing in difficult circumstances."

Avondale Williams (born 10 October 1977) is a football manager and former player from British Virgin Islands. He played as a forward for Veterans, Rangers, and Islanders FC. He is the British Virgin Islands national team's all-time leading scorer with five goals. He retired in 2010.

Williams was the manager of the British Virgin Islands national football team from 2008 to 2018.

During the Children In Need charity appeal of 1993, the BBC produced a special two-part edition of the popular science-fiction television programme Doctor Who, entitled Dimensions in Time. Former Leeds and Sheffield United player and Argentina national manager Alejandro Sabella has died at the age of 66.

Sabella, who guided his country to the final of the 2014 World Cup, had been in hospital since late November.

He made 76 appearances for the Blades between 1978 and 1980 before joining Leeds, for whom he played 23 times.

His death comes just two weeks after the death of another former Argentina player and manager, Diego Maradona.

A tweet by the Argentine Football Association read: "The family of the #LigaProfesional football @AFA deeply regrets the death of Alejandro Sabella, and accompanies all his loved ones in this sad moment."

Sabella joined Sheffield United from River Plate after the club failed to sign Maradona.

He would return to his home country after his subsequent short spell at Elland Road to join Estudiantes, whom he would later manage and lead to the Copa Libertadores in 2009.

His time as coach of the Argentine national side, for whom he also played eight times, began in 2011 and ended after the 2014 tournament, which saw his side beaten by Germany in the final.

The father of England international cricket player Ben Stokes has passed away aged 65 after a battle with brain cancer, it has been confirmed.

Former rugby league player and coach Ged Stokes was diagnosed with the illness in January.

Former club Workington Town confirmed the news with a short statement on Tuesday afternoon.

“It is with great sadness that we learn our former player and coach Ged Stokes has passed away,” they said. "Ged is written into the rich fabric of Town history and will be greatly missed.

"Ged still has many, many friends here in West Cumbria and we send our thoughts to them too."

The Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Act 2017 is an Act of the Parliament of Australia, which legalises same-sex marriage in Australia by amending the Marriage Act 1961 to allow marriage between two persons of marriageable age, regardless of their gender.
