Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is in talks with Burnley about their vacant manager's job after leaving his role as Anderlecht boss.

Kompany, 36, has left by mutual consent after finishing third in the league and runners-up in the Belgian Cup final.

He had been manager since August 2020.

It is understood Kompany is the main candidate for a role which retains appeal despite the club's relegation to the Championship at the weekend - and their financial issues.

The Clarets had received a £65m loan with American finance company MSD Holdings, a 'significant proportion' of which now has to be repaid.

They sacked Sean Dyche after 10 years at the helm in April, replacing him with Mike Jackson as interim boss but he was unable to prevent relegation.

Grimsby Town secured another dramatic extra-time win to shatter Wrexham's dreams of National League promotion.

Paul Mullin's penalty gave Wrexham the lead but John McAtee levelled, with Luke Waterfall putting Grimsby ahead.

Ben Tozer and Mullin made it 3-2 and although Ryan Taylor and Mani Dieseruvwe restored Grimsby's advantage, Jordan Davies equalised.

Waterfall scored a 119th-winner for Grimsby, who had beaten Notts County in extra-time in the play-off eliminator.

Grimsby will now face Solihull Moors or Chesterfield in the final at West Ham's London Stadium on Sunday, 5 June.

The Mariners are now 90 minutes away from a swift return to League Two, while Wrexham's absence from the EFL will now extend to a 15th season.

What a hassle sorting everything out for going to Thailand

Repairs on the section of The Old Ghost Road from Lyell Reserve (the southern trailhead) to Lyell Saddle hut have progressed faster than initially expected, thanks to the efforts of our crew on the ground. We are pleased to confirm that the section will re-open from 11:59pm tonight (Friday 27th May) and the whole trail will be traversable again.
