Shaw has shown all the right attributes to be a top LB. Any new manager would be able to use him the way they like and it wouldn't hinder any change in tactics.

how can you buy players without a manager.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hazard moved to Chelsea ... most of Citys business last year was done before Pellegrini was confirmed i think... it happens
----------------------------------------------------------------------
City have the set up to do it. That's how thy operate anyway
We don't
The new manager should decide the players he needs to fit in with the way he wants to play
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah i know that... and agree... was simply responding to the original question that it does happen.
It's only paper talk anyway at this stage.

If Chelsea got him and he turned out like cole people would moan that we didn't do enough to get him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I certainly will not be one of them, 30m for a fullback, unproven at the highest level, they can fúck off

OK
We buy Shaw for 30m
Van Gaal starts work and says, 'WTF you have spent 30m of my budget on Shaw??? I know a LB with even more potential and he's available for 2 million ffs'
Oh, sorry Mr Van Gaal, we didn't know
The new manager may not feel the player is worth anything like the money and may see the budget spent in the way he wants to spend it. There won;t be a bottonless pit of money right away and the new manager has to get it right doing it his own way, not someone else's way
For example
If we had 50m to spend
Shaw 30m Wanyama 20m
or
Coentrao 10m and Vidal 40m
(Just being htpothetical to make the point.)
The new manager might not want to waste 30m of his budget just on a LB and he should have that choice
See Zaha

Macca, I doubt very much the deal is done, and I'm sure they will consult the new manager before finalising the deal.

Very solid defensively, especially his positioning, watch him and the different in positioning between him and paddy is huge. He gets forward well and can put in a very decent cross (he even runs back to his position!). He also presses well from the back.

In his first season at Madrid, I thought he was excellent
I don;t think he's be a bad signing personally and seemingly he wants to come.
Again though, it's up to the new manager how he wants to spread the budget around

Shaw is great going forward but His defensive game has few flaws that could be exploited in PL. I think shaw will be a better option thatll provide a more solid foundation.

He was 23, a full england international for 2 years played in champions league. Arguably top 5 in the world at the time. He was young at the time but he was not 18 years old.
By the way it is the easiest criticism to say "poor positioning". It was used for rafa, zabaleta, ashley cole when he was young and all other attacking fullback. Our dear evra was one of the best in the world and it was used against him. Pure rubbish.
Shaw is already one of the most solid LBs in PL and an England international at EIGHTEEN. surely he deserves similar kind of money.
£30M for an 18 year old LEFT BACK is insanity.
ashley cole, zabaleta very rarely get caught out of position when compared to Contrao, They are far more solid defensively as well. Contrao is a good attacking full back but he is defensively weak
I think Shaw will be the real deal by the way. He's miles from the finished article at his age and he;s already very very good
Most defenders his age are pushing for places in club u21 squads. He's already played a cameo for England and took to it like a duck to water, Very impressive for a player 3 and half years younger than Jones and 6 years younger than Chris Smalling
30m is a huge fee though tbf
Glad it aint my money

Completely different scenarios. I have no problem splashing the cash on a known quantity or immense potential.
Shaw is neither
Funnily enough I did feel the fee for Rio was obscene. We could have bought one of the Italian CB's for less or even Stam back...
Everyone thought Rio's fee at the time was way too much
