In a world where Andy Carroll was £35m at 22 years old and Marouane Fellaini went for £27.5m at 25 years old, I don't see the problem with signing an 18 year old with MASSIVE potential.

I haven't read all the comments, so apologies if I am rehashing old comments but are we forgtting the small matter of a sell-on fee?

If he's here for 10 years, brilliant. If he isn't, and providing we don't stuff his contract negotiations up or stifle his playing opportunities (Pogba), we'll recoup a very tidy amount back.

If Madrid bought Januzaj tomorrow for £30m, would people be saying "we got a fantastic deal there" or "we've really ripped Madrid off". I'd bet if we did their fans would point to Fellaini, whilst laughing.

Finally, we all knew with no CL football (and Moyes) we'd maybe have to pay more money for players, now it's happening we have to accept it. Just because Moyes isn't here we're still in the same position.

I have no problem splashing the cash on a known quantity or immense potential.
--------------------------------------------------------
Shaw is already one of the best LBs(defensively) in PL. as for immence potential, shaw is already one of the best LBs(defensively) in PL AT EIGHTEEN so of course he has immense potential. He'd go for big bucks no matter where he ended up

so AMs, wingers, FBs are not important? we cant have any weakness in the team if we aspire to win PL,CL. we must have atleast a decent player at every position, otherwise the opposition would exploit that weakness

Shaw has done fúckall to warrant a 30m transfer. If people were stupid to pay 35m for Carroll or 28m for Fellaini, it does not mean we should continue such idiocy.

The top priority for us is to strengthen our midfield and we would look to spend big money there as we need a couple of players. We also need a wide player, big money spent again. When we have secured those signings, we can look at LB options and I for one have seen nothing and I mean nothing from Shaw to inspire the confidence so many have in his abilities.

I would rather we promoted from within or looked abroad for a decent option that can grow into the role.

30m on an 18 year old who has done nothing yet, what is wrong with posters on this board? Yes we want quality players but we should not be doling out stupid money for every tom, díck and harry

And buying a quality LB, Did you forget all the goals conceded from the left

first choice for a PL team that is currently at 8th

Already an England international

Already has a fully develop defensive game

Not quite "done nothing yet"

I never said that.Just certain areas are more key than others imo of course.
---------------------------------------------------
We won 2 out of last 4 PL titles with weak CMs, Chelsea are still in the hunt for the CL and PL but their strikers are crap.

there are no real unimportant positions imo, If you are weak at a certain area other players have to change their game to compensate for that weakness, which weaken the team as a whole

id argue that full back is quite an important position to play, got to be offensively good enough to provide an attacking wide option, whilst defensively efficient enough to cope with a pacey/tricky winger, all whilst having the energy levels to do this week in week out for 90 minutes with the knowledge that a lapse in concentration leaves your centre backs exposed and likely outnumbered

wouldn't this break the record for the highest amount paid for a teenager?

Money doesn't matter, he may guarantee 12 years of quality service.

Luke Shaw is good but nowhere worth £30m. He's not even the best LB, Azpilicueta has been outstanding and yes not worth that much. The only reasonable excuse is because his age, selling with the same league and he is English.

========================

Who are these people that rate him? His fellow English men that have rated Ashley Young, Phil Jones, etc. Right?

========================

You do realise that if we had a midfield capable of protecting the back 4 we would not have conceded so many goals, right?

No 18 year old on planet earth has a fully developed football game. Sorry.

He has done fk all

He is a decentish player, not even worth 15m

Seems people cant do basic mathematics. £30m over 10 - 12 yrs (which is how long he could potentially be atthe club) = .....

Bargain.
