I think you might be right there Robbing. We all know Matip is gone in the summer so I'm hoping we buy someone in January and give them 6 months to bed in before they'll be called upon regularly. Virgil's return to form might suggest otherwise though.

We should offer Matip another year or 2. He has been great for us and he is great in dressing room too.

If Arsenal can get their front 3 back firing, with the 3 of Saliba, Gabriel and Rice looking extremely solid, they’ve got a great chance this year. Big game soon at Anfield against them.

Do think City don't look as good as previous years.

They won all 4 games last season that they've dropped points in so far.

32 yr old with his injury record? Can’t see it. And tbh this board with have a meltdown if we offered him a new contract and had a few injury issues in defence.

New LCB and Quansah to challenge Konate/Gomez would be my guess.

He isn't on massive wages and doesn't complain when benched. Konate and Gomez are a bit injury prone. If we bring in a replacement then it's still all good.

It’s crazy that there’s only 6 points separating the top 6 atm, this far into the season. Definitely exciting, and about time there are more than 2 teams, although probably will drop to 2 come the end.

He has been better than Konate and by a distance this season so he is being offered a contract on merit. Also his injury record is much better than Konate and Gomez.

End of last season it did look like this change of formation was not ideal for him but against City he did more right back work than Trent.

City always starts slow

Matip as a partner brings the best out of VVD much more so than any of our other centre backs which is pretty crucial, lets hope he can stay fit and in form.

Konate is a fans favourite and is an absolute beast on his day, but he has a lot of clumsy moments which spreads panic to the rest of the defence.

Gomez is just pretty crap .

I suspect we’ll bring in Inacio at LCB and let Matip go.

Apparently Trent could be punished for his celebration. Surely not.

Anything is possible with the cretins employed by the FA.

We defended tactically very good. Trent didn't let Doku get Inside and Matip covered all of the left footed passes and crosses.

I do think we need a dynamic tall LCB like Ignacio who can cover all the left side defensively. At times VVD is dragged to the left to win headers which leaves us open in the centre.

With regards to City, they had an exceptionally long season last year, and now have the CWC in December. It’s a brutal fixture list before moving into a tough January and then the resumption of the CL.

There is definitely a chance they will burnout but I fear Arsenal would be the ones to take advantage.

The look quite solid if unspectacular. We’ve more experience of the situation though, could be the best race in a long time.

I tipped Arsenal start of season mainly due to Rice. He has been a top signing for them. The Jan business could decide who wins title.

we might not even be looking at a DM, Klopps insistant Mac can play the 6 but its more of a team game and the ones around him need to be tighter to help out. Way he talks sounds like its a change in system and we might not even be looking at a more defensive type of midfielder. Instead working with what we have to perfect a new way?

Either way the squads not finished and long term replacements are needed. Especially with Konate failing to prove hes gonna be able to stay injury free for a season hes looking like a Matip replacement as opposed to VVDs.

Expect to lose Thiago, Matip, should be looking at 2 def and a mf imo and january should be the first window to add one or two of them.

someone who played in a double pivot in the brighton mf, sure some of the defensive numbers and side of his game were strong but you'd prob find grob and the rest also are and mac10s etc. U dont play in brightons mf if u dont work hard and contribute to pressing and defending.

Same with Endo, to me hes far more overall in style closer to a Milner than a Fabinho.
