Yeah, I’d be very surprised if there was any truth in this. Seems to me that he’s intent on leaving but there’s no credible buyers showing an interest yet. So there’s probably a bit of flapping going on by his agents and they’re using us to get some interest going.

But as for him not adapting to the PL that’s utter nonsense. He’s one of the best players in the world and chances are he’d go up another level once he’s actually playing competitive games more than a few times a season, after no doubt stagnating in the farmers league.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, were not getting Mbappe, my point was about him not making it in PL.

However, isn't he leaving in a free? What if you convert the transfer fees you'd have spent buying him into wages?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It may well be financially viable, especially when you consider his huge marketing value. But I think someone (City) will just blow us out of the water. If they do get him then the league will just be an even bigger farce.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed. We could've even get Bellingham. Mbappe will not happen.

Also, can’t dismiss the possibility that RM will still be in for him. I know they’ve said they’re not in for him but they could just be playing their own game. Turning the tables on Mbappe so that he’s the one that’s desperate to join them, not the other way round.

Completely agree. He's only just turned 25 as well, could have another 8+ years left as well.

He's an oddly divisive player though. I can't think of another player in my 40+ years of supporting the club how has been so outrageously talented, produced on the pitch on so many occasions, and yet so criticised by the fans.

There is a focus on the negative with Trent that is almost unique given his strengths.

It's the entire false narrative around him being crap defensively which is constantly media driven. Also didn't help he did have a poor year last year (as did everyone).

But the constant mentioning of it in the media is wild given the likes of James and Trippier have just as many defensive c@ck ups but never get talked about in the same way.

Would also appear if a tricky winger beats a fullback once in a game, that's enough for some people to call them poor defensively.

Think creative players get that kind of stick to be fair. Remember Beckham getting a load for England.

On a related note, did anyone see the breakdown of the whole 'Doku dribbled past Trent 6 times' stat? I saw a video showing all of the incidents. Think there was only one where Doku Beat Trent to the bye line and got a cross in. Most were him just chopping back inside and then running into Matip or one of the midfield... So Trent was doing exactly what you want your full back to do in that situation... Makes a mockery of the stat tbh

It's a narrative that a surprising number of Liverpool fans buy into imo, given we bear witness to his overall performances.

That’s just the culture now, mostly stouter by know nothings.

I could it Trent behinds a hard working RW and not have him cross the half way line and he’s look absolutely sound defensively.

But it’s the way it is now. An oppo player could cut inside, skin someone with a great but if skill then top bin it and I guarantee you’ll see ‘Such and such was at fault for that’.

I think Trent is a superb player but his approach to games when we are in a bad patch of form is not great. His head drops quite quickly and he appears quite lethargic when he’s playing. I think that’s what means he draws criticism. When we’re playing well though he’s one of the best players in the league.

Yeah I saw that too, and my first thought was that it was even more impressive Van Dijk hadn't been dribbled past this season

Haha yes this! I’ve no idea if oppo fans say that 30 times a season when Salam gets a goal but it’s weird because if our player does something good, the defender never gets slated.

Was it the first goal last year when Mitrovic beat Trent in the air at the back stick and he got insane pesters from our own fans… as if Mitrovic hasn’t made an entire career of murdering full backs in the air at the back post.

Ah well, he seems to handle it well tbh.

"One of Liverpool’s strengths is Trent going forward but also one of the weaknesses and we see that a lot of the time," Fowler said on BT Sport.

Trent had a mare last season defensively. So many mistakes and it was only for the inverting change which reinevted him. There was games where he could not be asked to defend and he was rightly criticised. This season he has been a lot better and the team is benefitting.

Still makes the odd mistakes but you can live with that cos the effort is there.

Fack the narrative and what oppo fans say.

Trent is asked to do a job for us and he does it.well.

It’s a risky job and sometimes shiiiit happens and we concede chances/goals.

That’s the system we play, at the same time if he signed for one of our PL rivals their fans would be creaming in their panties

Who cares what they say

Yep this. The criticism of Trent's defending has been overboard, but at the same time he gets beaten 1 v 1 far too easily.

He's been better so far this season.
