8 million tonnes of plastic in our oceans each year, so people as individuals, as well as industry, are killing the planet.....we still leave rubbish after trips to a beach, park or throw it from cars.

I have again put out 3 recycling bins, including lots of plastic and guys lifted it at 6.30, but many neighbours do not even do this tiny thing to save the planet.

I cycle and walk in the countryside most days, and blue covid masks are now competing with plastic bottles and takeaway rubbish by the roadside.

Local Womble and other volunteers go out weekly to lift this crap, but days later the louts have left a new mess.

While industry, China, America,,Canada, India and Watar are big offenders, many people make matters worse with litter, laziness not recycling, always using cars and not walking or cycling, wasting food and power, not wearing clothes more than once or twice etc etc.

Shambles.

The racist Pakistani killer of a white boy in Scotland has enjoyed a day out of prison....sporting a t-shirt with a gun on it.

5 pakistani men targetted an innocent white teenager in Glasgow, kidnapping him for being white, torturing him on a 200 year car trip, stabbing him 13 times, then setting the white teenager on fire, to die a terrible death.

The white kid was picked at random and was not involved in any form or racism himself.

This was the first racially motivated murder in Scotland.

The paradox of ‘Insulate Britain’.

If the planet is warming we need less insulation in our homes, not more. https://twitter.com/LanceForman/status/1439999109734166528?s=19

Morning all,

Was just reading this regarding rising gas costs.

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-58090533

"Gas prices are rising across Europe but there are reasons why energy bills are hitting Great Britain particularly badly:

Supplies of renewable energy are down because it's been the least windy summer since 1961 - over the last week, wind provided just 9% of power for England, Wales and Scotland."

"A recent fire at a National Grid site in Kent closed a power cable supplying electricity from France"

The BBC seem to be terrified to mention the "B" word as a reason for much higher rises here than the rest of Europe.

Back in 2018 it was highlighted that leaving the EU's internal energy market would lead to an increase in energy costs.

https://unearthed.greenpeace.org/2018/06/14/brexit-eu-internal-single-energy-market-interconnector/amp/

The whole of Europe is seeing rises however the UK is experiencing a much bigger problem. The UKGov chose to leave the EU Internal Energy Market, even though it relied on many aspects of it, and now it does not have the same control over energy prices.

My issue is the lack of foresight, to hark back to he waste solution i suggested yesterday, current tolerance in our national grid would allow us to use bio digesters to make the gas supply have around 10% renewables input, be it methane from bio digesters, or Hydrogen from energy storage plants.

It's something Germany have been doing for over 10 years.

I was also reading that back in 2000 UK was self-sufficient in energy. And over the years became highly reliant on energy imports.

Our energy grid hasn't had any real investment since the 70s, it's one of the least efficient in Europe and is degrading all the time.

We need to generate 2Kwh for every 1 that gets used because we lose so much through the system.

It's a huge part of the crisis, and why these essential services shouldn't be run as profit extracting monopolies.

It should be state run, as an arm's length NPE with performance targets and surplus limit. Witha. Requirement to budget accordingly to replace the infrastructure at the end of its useable life. Not keep it ticking over like the shareholder driven monstrosities we see today.

It's a massive part of us fighting climate change.

I'm genuinely thinking Covid is a only a small % of why the UK is going to chit on a daily basis.

It’s kind of what happened with Railtrack, infrastructure kept ticking along and investment / upgrades delayed.

It's a perfect storm. I'd always maintained that when covid hit, brexit should have been put on hold (transition extension) until the country had got back on its feet.

Managing both at the same time (IMO) was madness.

That would have seemed like the most sensible and logical thing to do but we know our current gov doesn't do sensible
