Do you lot think all this chit happening now all at the same time is a Brexit, bad leadership, covid or all of the above thing?
I'm genuinely thinking Covid is a only a small % of why the UK is going to chit on a daily basis.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a perfect storm. I'd always maintained that when covid hit, brexit should have been put on hold (transition extension) until the country had got back on its feet.

Managing both at the same time (IMO) was madness.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That would have seemed like the most sensible and logical thing to do but we know our current gov doesn't do sensible
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That said they won a 80 seat majority based on "getting brexit done" so (rightly or wrongly) this is what most voters wanted.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I used to say that the perfect solution for Brexit was to stay in a permanent state of transition. Basically, carry on as before but with ‘leaving’ as a thing that will happen one day but never really does. No disruption, and leavers still get to say they won. I wasn’t even joking.

Just seen a throwback to when the Tories sold of the aviation fuel infrastructure (which would cost 10s of billions to build) for £86m in 2015, then signed up to lease it back for 10 years for the low low price of £237 million.

Fackin bargain. GrEaT WiTh ThE eCoNoMy

Be interesting to see which friend of a friend/business associate/fellow board member got that contract

The issue with that is stability (businesses knowing the rules they need to follow etc). Much harder to encourage inward investment without knowing the medium to long term trading arrangements.

The current (and ongoing) negotiations surrounding the NIP a perfect example, as many UK businesses have stop servicing the NI market until arrangements are a bit more robust.

Brown exposed us to?

Thatcher exposed us to, she deregulated the banking industry in the 80s.

Brown put regulations back in, after the crash, and Cameron took them out again.

Kriss Donald, was the name of the innocent white 15 yr old in Lilybank Glasgow, abducted, tortured and burned to death by 5 racist Pakistani men in 2004, out to get any white kid they came across.

I never even knew or heard his name before.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was well reported at the time as has the lunatic behaviour of Baldy behind bars.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It got massive coverage here in Scotland and has continued to do so. I can’t speak for how much coverage it got in the UK wide news, I don’t remember it having much though.

I also seem to remember Anas Sarwars dad (of Pakistani heritage like the killers but unlike the killers was actually born there. AFAIK the killers were Scottish and England born) being very vocal on it in terms of having them brought to justice.

Just in Trudeau still PM of Canada, good news for progressive Liberals...ain't that right Quebec?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was supposed to get rid of FPTP. He has basically the same minority as he had before the election. Wasted $600 million. He backed out of electoral reform so the people(sit down Tbab) did it for him. I like minority governments. Makes them play well together.
And the only real progressive holds the balance.

Jagmeet.

What banking regulations did Brown implement? At the very least he did not roll back the deregulation under thatcher when he became Chancellor, but I’ll admit I’m not entirely clear what additional deregulation in FS or banking that he enacted.
