"The Metropolitan Police will investigate a number of events at Downing Street and Whitehall in relation to potential breaches of Covid regulations, the force's commissioner Dame Cressida D 1ck announces."

Understand referral was made by Sue Gray. Surely Johnson can't survive now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Cressing D 1ck has been bullet proof despite numerous failings in recent years. Good chance there will be a scandal or failing released about her now so she has to resign.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Inconceivable given police presence around #10 / Whitehall they weren't aware of covid indiscretions.

Today's Labour biased media watch.

When Matt Hancock was caught playing away from home it was headline news (not surprisingly).

Now it appears that loudmouthed hypocrite Angela Rayner is getting it off married Labour mp Sam Tarry the silence from our news networks is deafening.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Matt Hancock one was headline news because it was when social distancing was enforced and he was health minister. If it was just an affair, no one would really care.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What?

The attention that the clown that is the PM gets over affairs is justified and brutal.

But nobody will care about Rayner’s double standards and hypocrisy?

Aye ok.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I mean, he is PM so it is headline news as it would get more interest. If Angela Rayner was PM then I would expect it also to get a lot of attention.

The only reason you really care about Rayner at the moment is to deflect from the shambles in the government.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I actually couldn’t give a flying about either of them to be honest.

I wonder at the amount of people who get their scanties in a knot about affairs and other peoples business unless of course it impacts them directly. Who doesn’t know a number of people who’ve had affairs?

It happens and people get hurt but the world moves on as mostly do they.

Weird fascination.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm probably being overly moralistic given that, to err is human. But because an affair is a betrayal of trust and a demonstration of self gratification at the expense of someone who trusts you. It's probably not a great look for a politician.

However they are human and have base Impulses and needs. If you assume politicians are self serving, liars that you can't trust. Then it's business as usual.

That’s as good an assumption as any as they prove to us all over and over again.

Not all of them of course. But if one of them decides to “err” sometimes it’s just part of life as opposed to some subterfuge.

What do we reckon now then?

Sue Gray’s report is going to be delayed and if the Met investigation drags on, if the Gray report is made public at any point soon, it’ll have to be redacted to hell.

Good news for Boris short term if he is absolutely determined to hang on as long as he can no matter what, but this is probably going to be his last chance to step down on his own terms.

Cabinet meeting went more or less to schedule it would seem, and Boris had Moggy Mogg defending him on exiting, so I expect he isn’t going today.

Bad news for the Tories short and probably medium term, I’d say. All of those MPs who said they’d wait for the Gray report before deciding on whether to hand in their letters are going to be waiting longer (unless they change their minds, which wouldn't look great either). Meanwhile the brand continues to take a beating as Boris drags it through the mud, and cabinet members who are sticking by him will be further tarnished through their inaction. The argument will be there to be made come election time that none of them acted to intervene whilst the Met investigated what were clear rule breaches at Number Ten.

Time for a top table revolt?

posted on 25/1/22

Will be interesting to see whether the Met is willing to answer the questions about whether any of the police at/around Number Ten reported concerns to seniors about COVID regulations being broken.

Hard to believe that Covid rules haven't been broken at some point unless they wore masks when playing hide the sausage.

Rayner has done exactly what Hancock did and at the very least deserves some adverse media coverage over it. An interview with Sam Tarrys wife would provide a welcome break from partygate.

Yeah; it would have been preferable to being ousted by a police report

I really don’t think the cabinet is going to come out of this looking good either, at all. They’ll all already have sight or at least knowledge of everything that Sue Gray’s team has been provided with.
