Test match cricket is still the crème de le crème in terms of the formats.

That said, it does feel like most countries try to pick good one day players in the hope that they can adapt. I think that's a fair option but too many just don't. I mean, England have some great 1 day players that shouldn't be in a test side (Roy, Morgan etc). Its rare a player can do both (Archer, Root) although I imagine Archer will have to make a choice on which format to push for.

Are there really any proper Test players anymore? Players that can bat out sessions. One day stuff has ruined test cricket. Batsmen simply incapable of playing time. Easy to bowl out teams now in a couple of sessions.

Yes and England have a few of them yet they were criticised by some for batting too slowly.

Windies have shown some quality with the bat at least for the first half of the series. Understandable in the current climate that they would struggle especially towards the end but they deserve a huge amount of credit. The way Hope and Chase got out is disappointing but all in all, they've been excellent.

England have a lot of one day merchants, take them away from Englush conditions, and most are pretty useless at test match stuff.

That's a dreadful review in any direction you look at that

Test match cricket as a spectacle is better for having fewer players able to play long innings.

Nothing worse than going to a match and the opposition being 300-2 on day 1. Especially if you have had to spend the whole day watching facking Steve Smith

Other than Buttler, we've got no one day merchants. We've got a few who feature in both but they're some of our best players in both formats; Root, Stokes and Archer.
