Sun shinning

It's due to rain from middayish, and at the moment there's only a few hours during play time between now and Monday when it's not raining.

Then again BBC Weather has been pretty inaccurate recently

Looks dreadful

Met office has most of the rain as 30%. I think we'll get plenty of cricket in. With these two batting line ups we'll need to lose an awful lot of time to the weather for a draw.

Basically 1 hour this morning, 2 hours tomorrow morning and 3 hours Monday morning

Might as well make it a 50 over game, 6 hours total should be enough

I would have rested Anderson for this one,but sounds like from the press he will play, and leave out Archer who i dont see the point of playing if he cant take the new ball
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do you think he needs the new ball? He's not a bowler who traditionally finds movement so he should be able to bowl quick regardless.

Last time Fawad played a Test, none of the other 10 in Pakistan’s playing X1 had made their Test debuts... only Pakistan.

Yeah, I don't understand that line of thinking. Being quick doesn't mean being a new-ball bowler. He's not tall so he doesn't get the sort of extravagant bounce that would benefit from a new ball, and pace is pace whether the ball is old or new - in fact, a new ball goes so fast off the bat that quick bowlers can go for horrendous economy rates with the new nut.

The new ball is used for conventional swing and seam movement, which is why it suits Anderson and Broad perfectly. Giving the new ball to Archer and an old one to one of Broad or Anderson would simply neuter Broad/Jimmy while not offering any particular benefit to Archer.

The larger issue is that Archer is a fairly one-dimensional bowler and he needs to add more variety to his bowling. It's becoming clear that his stock pace is more like 85 than 90mph, and we know how big a difference that 5mph makes - you need something more to your game to become a top bowler at that pace, and I don't think Archer has that yet.

Good to see Curran back in the side, his left arm variation and ability to pick up key wickets and break up partnerships is a huge asset. Hopefully we won't be too dependent on his batting but he is a game changer and match winner.

One thing I hadn't realised is that Rory Burns averages more than all the other openers tried since Strauss retired. I'm not sure of the exact stats, but that comes from this article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/53740196

Obviously I'm delighted to hear that, but I had assumed with his recent form that his average would've dropped a bit further. Still needs a few big scores to get up and running again though. He and Sibley should have a long future opening together.

Fawad has a first-class average of 57, apparently... why has he only played 3 tests!?

Surprised he's come in for Shadab. Asad Shafiq didn't play particularly well and Shadab looked decent I thought and provides a second spin option.

Good toss to win for Pakistan, definitely want to bat first here. A few stoppages of play here and there may help us bowling though.

Woakes, Curran, Bess, Broad at 7-10 is a decent looking tail. At their best, they're all capable of batting at 8. Although on another day they may only muster 5 runs.

With them winning the toss, I'd say it's 75/25 in their favour. Need a wicket .

England playing 10 batsman. Clear favourites.

Nice to see Fadi back, hope we can get a good 1st innings score.

With rain around it could be quite annoying as batsman to get in again

Good opening stand would be nice so we don't have to see Azhar struggle with the ball moving around

4 batsmen, 2 keepers, 5 bowlers. Pakistan 80/20 now as we're essentially bowling in an oven and not even a fan oven for a bit of breeze.

That jimmy talk last week is nonsense.

Still one of the best. Class is permanent.

All England as they say....

Said it before, we should have bowled first
