The bank limited the amount of money we could spend because we couldn't afford it

Did this happen or not?

Who's telling Barca or Real to reign it in?

When a company spends too much money, they either start cutting their cloth or they go into administration

We went into administration

Barcelona and Real Madrid are trying to avoid both.....so again, completely different from what happened with Rangers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, rangers didn’t cut their cloth-the bank had to intervene and make you.

Despite that, you now seem to acknowledge now that your stance that you didn’t buy any players or spend any money was bollox, with Jelavic being about £4.5 million?!

Real Madrid bought no one last summer.

Barcelona spent less than they brought in last summer.

Sounds like someone had a word with them.

Seriously man, stop going down the rabbit hole.

You are twisting my words

In the last few years before Whyte took over, the bank told us what we could and could not spend.

We went on a run to the Uefa Cup final in 2008 and spent heavily after that...then the $hit hit the fan with the credit crunch hitting, and Murray's years of living off bank debt came to an end.

In 09/10, the only money the bank allowed us to spend on the squad was £450k on a loan fee for Jerome Rothen

In 10/11, after reducing our bank debt the previous year and selling some players, the bank let us spend a bit more, which allowed for the purchase of Jelavic.

I didn't say we didn't spend ANY money, I said the bank told us not to spend as we had been for years...we did exactly what they said.

In the 3 years before we went into administration, our net spend on transfers was negative, we brought in £5m

In the last 3 years, Barcelona's net spend on transfers has been over £100m...so yeah, same thing isn't it

His position is untenable now and he was resigning this summer anyway. He’s as close to the Glazer family as you can get so it’s clearly a response to the ESL falling apart as it was their baby so to speak.

Question now is will the Glazers just sell up now they can’t get their model? United fans will hope so.

Your words.

So, you did buy players-£4.5 million on one player alone-you didn’t get anyone to take a pay cut, (again, I believe you actually gave enhanced contracts to Whittaker and someone else at the beginning of season 2011/12) and the only real player of note you sold was Jelavic.

The point is still sailing right over your head.

Okay, I stand corrected

It's false to say we didn't buy players for something like two seasons......it's more accurate to say that from 2008-2010, the only money we spent on players was £450k on Rothen

My apologies

I thought players took a wage cut before we went into admin appears I may be wrong on that

Barry Ferguson
Charlie Adam
Danny Wilson
Kevin Thomson
Kris Boyd
Kenny Miller
Madrid Bougherra
Nikica Jelavic

All of these players left the club in the 3 years leading up to and including 11/12

Jesus Christ Stevie.

A quick check tells you that in 2008 you bought;

Kyle Lafferty
Maurice Edu
Steven Davis
Pedro Mendes
Madjid Bougherra
Kenny Miller
Andrius Velicka
And Andy Webster

For a total of £21 million according to transfermarkt.

Btw-of the players you ‘sold’

Kris Boyd left on a free.
Kevin Thompson was injury prone
Kenny Miller was 31
Ferguson was 31
Charlie Adam wasn’t rated by anyone at rangers

But aye, cut your cloth.

Yup, already said this
We spent heavily at the start of that season, in 2008

Was 2010 before we signed Jelavic, so from 2008 to 2010, all we spent, across 3 transfer windows, was £450k on Rothen

What does it matter what we sold them for?
Clubs knew we had to sell, so most went cheap
Don't you removed the uproar when Miller went to Bursaspor for about £0.5m....we got an offer in and had to sell

Our squad size was also reduced by a total of 8 bodies over those years...we had 40 year old Davie Weir playing every game

‘ it's more accurate to say that from 2008-2010, the only money we spent on players was £450k on Rothen’.

Maybe it’s just me, but what you’re really trying to say is from January 2009 until June 2010 the only money you spent was on Rothen? So, 18 months rather than the 3 years that you’re alluding to in attempt to make it look better??

Otherwise, it’s entirely inaccurate to say from 2008-2010, all you spent was £450k-unless you ignore the £25 million spent in the summer of 2008 and summer of 2010.

And then the players you bought in the summer of 2011, and the enhanced contracts...

I’m trying to figure out if you’re being serious, at the wind up, or just a bit silly.

‘The 31-year-old's Ibrox contract was due to expire this summer, leaving him free to talk to other clubs this month.’

He was about to leave on a bosman.

Ferguson left-allegedly-because of losing the captaincy.

It wasn’t cutting any cloth is the point.

How is it entirely inaccurate to say that from a period in 2008 to a period in 2010, that's all we spent?

I've already apologised for saying something like two seasons....but let's be honest, two seasons is four transfer windows...it was 3 transfer windows....I wasn't exactly a million miles away

And yes, I am being serious
Could we have cut costs way more than we did.... absolutely

The point being lost...as usual...is that what these megarich clubs were trying to do is utterly abhorrent as it meant dragging the entirity of European football down just so they didn't have to even remotely start thinking about cutting their cloth to the extent needed

It was heavily publicised at the time that we were downsizing - successfully as the figures owed show - for a pretty long period. We'd paid back a lot of debt.

Not sure what the argument is about, pretty straightforward

Right

So if we had the resources, we wouldn't have offered him a new contract or tried to keep him in any way?

This is a guy who played in the Premier League for two years after leaving us.....a guy younger than Steven Davis who we've just signed a extended deal with.

We couldn't afford him any longer
