It has been well documented that Liverpool FC have not got great
options in their forward line.Borini and Suarez being the only senior
out and out forwards(which is debatable anyway).
This has distracted people from seeing one of the main issues
for the poor start of the season, the defence.
In 3 premiership games you have shipped in 7 goals, had
2 penalties awarded against you and have had a player sent off.
You have had a right back playing left back and including cup competitions
have had 4 different combinations of central defenders.Reina looks disinterested at best in reality he looks shell shocked.
Your midfield defensive cover is poor and as highlighted on BBC match of the day Glen Johnson has been playing more as a winger than defender.
Not many teams win games when they concede 2 or 3 goals a game and when you are so light in attack this makes it twice as hard.
Brendon needs to tighten the defence or its going to be a struggle all season, their's very few easy games in the Premiership these days.
What would be your answer to Liverpools defensive woes
A case for the defence

'It was a howler as the first shot was a lot wider and no the sky commentators did not say it was a great save because it was not a great save. Can't believe people are starting to make excuses as to how Carzola's goal went in'
I'm not making excuses, I'm saying it wasn't a 'howler' - Reina could have saved it and probably should have - that is the quality of the keeper!

How many reliable first team players do we have? One thing am sure is that Reina is no longer reliable.......not just this season but last season too!

Yes the defence must tighten up but if you recall zonal marking under Rafa took a while to bed in but produced strong results over time. Hopefully the new system will bring similar results.

VC, the system is score more but concede more and domonate possession.
It's going to take at least a couple more months for the players to get used to it.
It's only as flawed as doing anything other than outright bus parking

Now I thought Brendans philosophy was based on the Barcelona Tike-Taka style of football?
If this is the case why has Brendan setup the team to conceed goals but score more? Barca are one of the best defensive sides as well as attacking sides......their defence is meaner than John Henry

I have to agree with the OP!
Our defence and attack is a shambles!
BR and Co have put their eggs in one basket with conecentrating soley on the midfield!! Which was packed out in the first place lol...
Anyway its up to BR and CO to look at the free transfers and also to get Bucks system working!

first thing i would do is consider getting rid of skrtel. May as well give Coates a proper chance.
Plus a bit of proper competition for renia - altho i think this is his last season at liverpool.

Not really, no. It has some similarities, but otherwise , that’s mostly media BS.
His philospohy is based on defending high up the pitch, and at the moment, we’re not doing it well enough. The theory is that you can leave yourself thin at the back if your pressing game is going to stop the counter-attacks at source.
There’s a right way of doing it which unsettles the opposition’s defence, and there’s a wrong way of doing it which allows them to squickly pass their way out of it, and carry on with the counter-attack. At the moment, we’re doing it the wrong way, but it’s a learning curve.
It’s nothing to do with personnel. We had the third-best defence in the league last season, with the same players. There’s nothing wrong with this approach either, per se. Benitez did it to great effect. The main difference is that Rafa purposely bought players who were good at it (Lucas, Sissoko, Mascherano, etc), whereas Buck prefers ball players, and thinks he can teach them how to do it. Obviously I hope he’s right.
But my main concern with Buck’s approach is that Benitez didn’t do it straight away.....we didn’t win the CL playing that way. (though by the time we got to the final 2 years later, we were doing it). He introduced it gradually, whereas Buck is going for the ‘big-bang’ approach, which I think is risky.
It’s all very well asking for patience, but even if the fans are patient with it, the Press definitely won’t be, and I’m not wholly confident the board will be either, if we drop a bucket-load of points while we’re learning, and are left scrapping in the botton half of the league.
At the moment, we’re giving away goals free with every packet of cornflakes, and it’s a bit alarming.

Correct - our season is a complete disaster and over already - no chance of us winning the league now!
