In the Arsenal game there was too much of a gap between the defense and midfield and Arsenal kept explioting this. Johnson has been told to get forward as much as he can but there is no one in midfield to cover his runs. Joe Allen is playing the sitting midfielder role and that is not his natural position but we have no one else that can play there.

Dont pass the ball straight to an opposing player :-

a) when he is one on one with the keeper
b) when we are sweeping forward and have options on, leaving us massively exposed for a swift counter (Stevie)

To be fair, we went behind to a wonder goal to WBA and then had to chase the game, Skrtel slipped leaving Agger exposed and he 'touched' Long, weak red but can see why it was given, we atruggled with 10 men.

Cant remmeber the 1st city goal of the top of my head, 2nd was just a terrible pass, oh just remembered the 1st Reina missed tha ball in, but I think it took a touch of Skrtel's bonce.

We were sweeping forward against Arsenal and Gerrard gave the ball straight to their player, leaving two on two I think, Arsenal are not a team you want to go behind against they will always break quickly if given a chance, which they did.

Some stupid errors, and some glorious play, on the whole the defending has been good.

Reina does need to wake up a bit, but his sweeping in behind and distribution have been good, and he has made some good stops too.

It's not a player or depth problem, it's just adjusting to the new style.

The other issue now is having a 19 man squad (excluding kids) and making them play in the League and Europa. Gerrard clearly can't do both and even Sureaz looked tired after a hard game against Hearts.

But seriously.

The high line was always going to be a problem. We knew this before the season started. The players need time to adjust.

Also our defence sees alot of the ball now which is down to Rodgers. He must be able to see that only Agger & possibly Johnson are any good with the ball at their feet. Enrique will just invite pressure on the defence for no reason.

And Skrtel is well Skrtel. He is always prone to silly errors.

I find it interesting that in the Arsenal game, before Reina made his 'howler', he save a very similar shot low to his left at the near post - the commentators lorded this as a great save, yet , when a very similar shot came in that hit him and went in, it was a complete howler! In my book, if a save is 'great', there is no shame in letting a similar goal in!

^^^^^^^^^^

Yep it was a good finish to be fair, really hard and low, nightmare for the keeper, it could of easily hit his elbow and gone for a corner or back out field.

It was a howler as the first shot was a lot wider and no the sky commentators did not say it was a great save because it was not a great save. Can't believe people are starting to make excuses as to how Carzola's goal went in

I was just shocked to see Reina save that first shot

Maybe there is a flaw in this style of play. Swansea were awful at the back as well.

VC, the system is score more but concede more and domonate possession.

It's going to take at least a couple more months for the players to get used to it.

It's only as flawed as doing anything other than outright bus parking.

I'm not making excuses, I'm saying it wasn't a 'howler' - Reina could have saved it and probably should have - that is the quality of the keeper!

How many reliable first team players do we have? One thing am sure is that Reina is no longer reliable.......not just this season but last season too!

Yes the defence must tighten up but if you recall zonal marking under Rafa took a while to bed in but produced strong results over time. Hopefully the new system will bring similar results.

Now I thought Brendans philosophy was based on the Barcelona Tike-Taka style of football?

If this is the case why has Brendan setup the team to conceed goals but score more? Barca are one of the best defensive sides as well as attacking sides......their defence is meaner than John Henry

I have to agree with the OP!

Our defence and attack is a shambles!

BR and Co have put their eggs in one basket with conecentrating soley on the midfield!! Which was packed out in the first place lol...

Anyway its up to BR and CO to look at the free transfers and also to get Bucks system working!
