I stand corrected - strauss and cook average is 40 as things stand, still not as good as previous openers...

Of the England opening pairs who have amassed over 1,000 runs together in the history of Test cricket Strauss and Cook come only 10th out of 13 if we judge them by the size of their average partnership. On that measurement after the masters, Hobbs and Sutcliffe, comes Hobbs and Wilfred Rhodes (2,146 runs at an average of 61 in 36 partnerships), Len Hutton and Cyril Washbrook (2,880 at 60 in 51), Mike Atherton and Graham Gooch (2,501 at 56 in 44). Then the name of Strauss appears not with Cook but alongside Marcus Trescothick (2,670 at 52 in 52)...........

Talking of records.....

Their average together is 41 but that hides the fact that our number 3 often comes in early with the ball still new. they had some very big partnerships against the WI before this series and a lot of not out partnerships when we've won easily.
I like both these guys, they've scored jointly 41 individual centuries but only 12 century partnerships seems too few.

Trott to finish the match with a six

Partnership falls at 89, so that would go in the "50 partnership" column?

posted on 28/5/12

Sad Strauss gone, samuels out bowling Shillingworth.

posted on 28/5/12

Maksi the 50 partnership was already included.

posted on 28/5/12

dont forget that when they go to 100, it comes out of the 50 column, so the number of times theyve got to 50 is the number of 50 partnerships, plus the number of 100 partnerships.

On TMS they are discussing the champagne moment. To be cruel they should give it to Roach for his two dismissals of Cook with no balls.

An extraordinary test match. Just over 24 hours ago the Windies were bowling and knocking over English wickets and then closing in on our first innings score for the loss of 2 wickets and it was game on. 24 hours later England are winning with well over a day to spare, scoring the runs for the loss of 11 wickets, which the Windies needed 20 wickets to make, and all in all it turned out to be a bit of a cake walk for us.

24 hours ago fellas? Boy can we really turn on the power, or should I say Tim Bresnan could. He was the difference, together with our wonderful openers, and Andersen.

lets face facts....minus chanderpaul - Windies are utter cack
