They did do research, mistakes are part of the package and the only way to learn from them is through experience.
I get the feeling your anti-FSG?
Lucas' Bola de ouro (U15721) I am a blue so am neither. Just though that such a group would have spend so much money with a plan in place, Now as I said I don't know as much about them as reds but it seems that they stumble from problem to problem (again not saying I am right, just how i see it)
Bored and sick of FSG. Their constant litany of excuses, PR and scapegoating to mask their total incompetence are really starting to grate.
If I was and was still making such feeble excuses for my abject failure after two years in a job I'd expect to get my marching orders.
FSG clearly view LFC as a side project to their real passion for The Red Sox and are biding their time until they can sell up.
It's high time they either stepped up to the mark or sold the club to someone who knows what they're doing.
After seeing that programme on QPR nothing surprises me about football owners.
I just hope they don't mess up too much, stay out the way, and back the manager. It's not been a good start but they've got a chance to show they can learn.
Maybe things will turn out for the best, but so far they seem to have had far from the perfect start ( 2 years). I know they had to clean up the mess left by the previous 2 american owners, It just appears to me that they dont have a clue how to get what they want, or more to the point get what they want
Ah, i'm sorry you support the wrong team i didn't check
Tbh i don't think they had enough time to fully research how to run a football club and they've said on record the money involved is more than they expected.
Like i said they'll learn from the mistakes, they will look for help of the more football knowledgeable (David Dein was part of the team that chose Rodgers)
You'll always have people that will moan, heck i've even got blue mates that are upset with only £12m for Rodwell

( thats 100% what i mean) surely if they didn't do there home work properly that a very big concern? but then again can argue if they do in fact learn from there mistakes, We all make mistakes in life and the important thing is to learn from them
should they not have done there homework before buying LFC
==============================================
I think they did, in general terms, but I think there were a few US/UK differences that caught them out.
Given their media background, I'm surprised how bad their PR has been, but maybe PR works differently over there.
I do believe in their long-term goals....they're just stumbling a bit on which specific route to take. a bit like Mr Bean. My concern is that I'm not sure they've finished stumbling yet, but in geneeral terms I think they'll get there.

..................
The same happened with the Glazers. They had their people do due dilligence on our club accounts, but still didn't realise we would only just make enough to cover their debts.
As a buisness, there really isn't a lot of money that can be made out of owning a football club.

long term goals, winning things playing nice football and being self sufficient, whats not to like,
do you thing if they stumble again that the animosity from fans could drive them away? now I only read this site and the Echo's and the fans appear to have the same opinion, about 30% (ish) behind and the rest either against or unsure, but my family and friends who are reds, appear far more balance and can see the bigger picture but are obviously not please with the current mistakes, i.e. no new stricker brought in on transfer deadline day
I find it ironic that our main sponsors Standard Chartered were taking a high moral stand over the Suarez saga, when they have been unveiled in their dodgy banking dealings. FSG have made mistakes and have not supported LFC at times. I'm also concerned about their level of experience in football.
With FSG it's the lack of consistency that shows them up for the shambles they have brought to the clubs running.
On one mad transfer day their appointment in Damian Comolli bankrolled a 35million transfer on an injured Andy Carroll.
Last Friday they pulled the plug on a five million deal for Dempsey despite being partly responsible for pushing up his price. That's a shocker.
They have kneejerked and brought in an inexperienced
manager and backed him with next to nothing considering the radical changed BR wants to implement. Did it escape their notice that one of their biggest payouts was on a player BR wouldn't want? Extraordinary.
One thing I do agree with is the notion that football needs to be financially sustainable and clubs like Chelsea and City need to be brought to book asap. If that doesn't happen we will be in the doldrums for years to come.
We were about to go the same way Rangers did if it weren't for FSG. As far as I'm concerned, we should still be thanking them, not slating them.

I didn't realise that our owners are supposed to be soothsayers. How would they know 18 months before appointing a new manager that the new manager wouldn't want Carroll.
I know you don't like FSG Aggers but your logic for disliking then is becoming ridiculous.

I might be inclined to believe their spiel about FFP had it not been for the spending they allowed on messyrs Carroll, Downing and Henderson. They walk the walk but they never talk the talk. Instead they hide behind smoke and mirrors. Up to now they have been utterly incompetent when it comes to running our club IMO.

What I mean is considering in their judgement that Carrolls signing was worth it, would it not have been wise to select a new manager that would want to play him, given the fact there was very little money to spend?
Aggers, were it not for their intervention, you very well might not have a club.

this is the opinion I have got from as an outsider,, (again I dont know as much as you fans, just what he seems like to me)

I don't really buy into this idea, we had one bad season and had two clowns as owners but the club was profitable and FSG picked us up at a reasonable price. There was never any question of going out of business.

They backed Kenny and Comolli and it didn't pay off, fair enough, but at least they gave their financial support unlike the previous owners. At least we are in a healthy financial position, unlike the position we were when FSG first took over. We as fans owe them time to adjust as they pretty much saved our backsides.

I actually place the blame for Carroll leaving firmly at the feet of BR. The fact that he decided before Carroll had even trained with that he didn't want him
was bad management.
A good manager would take what they have at their disposal and try to make it work. He didn't give Carroll a chance.
Could Carroll have improved under BR's tutelage? Possibly. Should he have been given a chance to try? Absolutely. What good has coming from loaning him out? Absolutely nothing. We made no money on the deal, we lost a striker that can have an effect and that is BR's fault not FSG's in my opinion.

agreed he should have given carroll a chance, but you would believe when he let him go, he must have 100% though he was bringing in a replacement

So RBS recalling their loan which would have sent us into administration and us going to court in an attempt to save the club was all just a figment of our imagination?? Crazy.

I think you must have missed a rather important chapter in your clubs history.
See FatJan above.
To say we may not have a club if it weren't for FSG is a total myth. There were plenty of interested parties but Broughton decided to plump for another set of money-hungry, incompetent yanks.
Who knows, if they'd sold to a more progressive and passionate owner we may now be en route to Champs Laegue football rather than mid-table obscurity.
