Loving Pujara at the minute, he looks very calm, Kohli is too good a player not to get big runs at some point in this series. I still think Dhoni is the man to captain India, very calm captain and dangerous player with the bat (although he hasn`t shown it yet).
Cook on top form, Trott needs runs, Bell? not sure if he`s up to it but he must play, Monty and Swann must be confident, Broad should be dropped.
Anyway, lets hope for a good game
Good luck.
*I predict an India win.
Be interested to see what India's plans to Cook are especially if we win the toss first and bat.
They haven't really looked like they know to get him out early in his innings or even limit his scoring options in his favourite areas. If he gets through the first 30 minutes of play in his form he'll be tough to dislodge unless Dhoni tries something different.
Crucial battle I think. Cook is the glue in this batting line-up, on the other hand if he does go early the Indians will be up for it and that won't be easy especially if there's a good crowd in at EG. Compton has looked reasonable so far nothing more and Trott's form is alarming. Couple that with Bell's poor run with the bat for a while and Cook's contribution could be vital.
What has stood out in both Tests so far has been a few individual performances have papered over cracks for both sides. Cook is only one subplot of many but I can't help but think how he fares could decide the outcome either way.
Regarding Trott, what concerns me is how he approaches his game in bad form. With all his mental process and the sense of perfection that goes into his batting it makes him vulnerable IMO. You often hear that when a batsman is out of nick he often overthinks his game and his routines and Trott's batting is based around just this, everything is meticulous. He certainly wont hit his way into form so he needs to hope it all clicks. He's looked ordinary against all types of bowling for most of the year not just spin out here with non existent footwork.
Fact is he needs a score quickly to avoid doubts over his place. He may have had a 'Bradmanesque' start to his Test career but that was then this is now. He's certainly got the ability and I hope he silences me and others this week.
Re; Cook & Pietersen.....if it wasn't for these 2 alone the chest beaters would not have a thing to blurp on about.
That 2nd test was just a one-off and England will once again go crashing down. Then this site will become as lively as a cemetery..
100 runs or so in the morning session is a nice steady start for India......another wicket required by England to square things up a bit.
No sooner said...but done...
4 down for 136. Dangerous times for the Indians, on a batting pitch. All down to sachin now
tendulkar looked very strong today
England needed that wicket, could just do with getting Tendulkar out but he is looking very patient.
Time to change this to the Sachin 101/101 thread
Great ball from Anderson, unlucky Sachin not going to be a century today but well played. Awesome catch from Prior I thought he was going to spill it. Lets get into the tail and get India out below 300 and it will have been a good day.
New ball time, 1 more wicket would make a good first day for England
Well in Jimmy, just what we needed to finish the day off.
Day 1 to England. This wicket looks a good wicket to bat and there is no turn on this track at all.
I can't see England batsman losing sleep over Khan and Sharma
Is sharma really playing
Havent seen genuine, quick raw pace bowling of late. Thank God for sharma
as i said in previous posts, our players are just playing enough to stay in the team. the players have no hunger to put a price on a wicket.
with the exception of tendulkar who is going to retire soon anyway, sewhag, gambhir yuvraj, kohli and dhoni. when they are in pressure the score a 40 or a 50 and after its a series of low scores.
India have lost the plot, scoring under 300 in a flat track, and they were demanding a rank turner??????? there is no initiative from dhoni whatso ever. if players like kohli are struggling why cant they be sent to bat up the order? to ease pressure??? why cant he promote himself up and lead from the front like all captains do???????
we are on the back foot and as kash said, england are going to toy around with zak and ishant cause they are out of form for a year now!!!!! and since the pitch will ease out on day 2 and 3 england ojha and ashwin will have little to play with. Its advantage england atm.
For me I think all players shud be put back to the ranji games. the players that perform selected and if not sit out and play ipl.
Viru I would not bank on the Ranji trophy much especially if someone as average as Jadeja has scored his 3rd triple ton and hes only 23.
Dhoni has to deliver tomorrow morning. He needs to keep the strike as much as possible and take the score over 350. However with the new ball and the colder morning conditions at Eden Gardens I fancy Jimmy and Finn to wrap this up quickly.
Could be a big first session coming up tomorrow. If England can wrap Dhoni and the tail up for under 320 and get an early partnership going, by lunch we could be in charge.
As I said last night a lot may depend on Cook carrying on his good form because this batting line-up will look vulnerable if India dismiss him early.
If he gets in or if Pietersen picks up from Mumbai England should build a big lead. Still a lot of cricket to be played though. Great day for England mind.
kash dhoni isnt a player which india can bank on. wont be suprised if he is the first one to go. Dhoni as a test batsman will not get in any test team. he is just very poor, and if not for his captaincy(which is a big question mark) wud not find a place in the team.
The script for this game is identical to the last one. England will score north of 500. India will bundle for innings defeat or 10 wicket loss. There will be more media staff in the stadium for last game than the spectators.
Viru it goes without saying dhoni is odds on to go out first tomorrow, name any other recognised batsmen that wouldn't hog the strike and play shots when his team is 7 down.
Yes dhoni is dry of runs of late, but would you still be calling for his head if he made a quickfire 70 odd? I think so, maybe you need to get behind your captain and team a bit more then if defeated you can dissect the team and their performance. Both teams haven't even batted yet!
Speaking about getting behind the team I have found it quite disappointing seeing these attendances, I remember seeing packed stands and vehement support from thousands of Indian fans young and old in previous series.
Watching it now it doesn't seen like the match is in India, due to the lack of atmosphere typically associated with many of the stadia
