Yep its embarrassing that we are so far behind Manchester United. But we arent the only club to have to think about it. Chelsea and even City are embarrassig far away from the top table and both have intvested much more than we did.

The direction and how we reach the aim is questionable for sure.

Spot on GT. No club has the right to expect to win trophies, but they should be gearing themselves up to challenge for titles. Arsenal's 8 year run is highlighted because during that time they have undergone a period of selling the best players and replacing them with poor sub-standard quality.
Serial, we signed one of the best commercial deal recently. Arsenal is attractive for sponsors
I don't think we do Lex. Szczesney is going to be a great keeper, he has had a coule of bad games and people are forgetting the brilliant games e has for us. He makes alo less mistakes than de gea. United don't want a new keeper. We also have fabianski who is a excellent back up goalie.
"Szczesney is going to be a great keeper"

Any chance that might happen soon?
He's had a poor season, and it's basically due to him coasting...
But do you honestly think we'd be in a stronger position if we'd, say, won the CO C, but missed out on the CL next season?
------------------------------------
Of course not Lex, but the fact remains that the "8 year without a trophy" coupled with Arsenal well known to sell their best players is having a detrimental effect on us, whether we qualify for the CL or not.
Besides, what benefit have we had in qualifying for the CL in the last few years? More bragging rights with our rivals? Plenty more money for the board?
He was having a excellent season up until recently. Just hit a bad patch.

Money to pay off debts which one are paid off, will allow us to spend more than almost anyone.

Really?! You actually believe that Rev??
Gary Neville had a great analogy. It's like we bought a expensive house, but instead of buying crappy furniture all the time and wastin money, we are waiting until we can drive past ikea and but the best furniture available.
"Besides, what benefit have we had in qualifying for the CL in the last few years?"

Of course there's no way of us knowing for sure where we'd be now without the last few seasons CL money, (mainly due to the deliberately confusing messages the Arsenal PR dept put out) but imagine of we'd NOT had that money and position, yet STILL been selling out best players.
We'd be firmly stuck in mid-table I reckon.
So until we pay off the debt, we have to watch more of our better players be sold off and watch the further decline of Arsenal? So we'll probably have the same squad quality as Leyton Orient, but at least we have a nice shiny stadium of our own, with tickets at £96 a pop.
Cannot wait.
Debt will be paid off in a year or two serial. I can deal with 1 or 2 more years of top 4 trophy it it means the club is secure and we will be able to become a top club for the next 100 years. Long term success > short term gain, long term failure.
Dude, if it's the stadium debt you're talking about, that won't be paid off 'til 2031.

And what if we fail to qualify for the CL this year, and next year and the next 5 years?
If CL was this important, why didn't Wenger do everything possible to ensure we qualify for this years CL, knowing how massive it was? Did he really think that we would compete after selling our best player?
GT, Sagna is off. 100% on that. You can also bank on either Vermaelen or Kosc being sold.
The facts are, if the board was transparent on its dealings, we didn't "need" to sell off Cesc, Nasri or RVP. But there's a mysterious need to make a profit. Why we don't just break even, i have no idea, but we have to make a £20m profit. Wengers words, not mine.
If you choose to believe her, Amy Lawrence said something along the lines of Arsene looked at the January window and knew he had better chance of landing the players he really wants - at a price he was willing to pay - in the summer.
Personally I'm still not convinced we'll make significant signings this summer, but there you go...
"Why we don't just break even, i have no idea, but we have to make a £20m profit."

Yeah this is something I've never understood - especially given the fact that the board knew we'd signed relatively poor, long-term sponsorship deals.
Breaking even should've been more than good enough, so why the need for profit?

Well i say i have no idea, but in fact we all know exactly why. After all, Silent Stan needs to fill his coffers.

Agreed with both of you regarding the break even comment. As i said yesterday, the need of making profits is what's killing us.
But I guess (pure guessing in here) that Kroenke in not here for the long terms and wants to an early exit. making profit will increase the club value, therefore the shares prices for when he decide to leave.
i know it sounds bad but if this mean us seeing the back of him sooner, then let's do it!
So, Get discussing...............
