Soldado v Giroud

You really shouldn't listen to RGK so much.

Giroud is a good little backup option, when Plan A - pass it through the middle isn't going to plan, he can come on to try and grab a goal.

But that's it. Shouldn't be in the first XI for Arsenal or Spurs. Would suit a club like WBA or Liverpool.

I would answer but the fact you described him as the French Andy Carroll shows you haven't watched him anywhere near enough to comment.

Soldado is much better, but I think the Arsenal fans do not appreciate Giroud- his goal return is not awful for a guy in his first season and he didn't cost a monumental sum of money.

Giroud has scored in both his games
He'll score 4 tomorrow

Im one of the Arsenal fans that doesnt rate Giroud and think its possibly our biggest need to buy a decent striker.

The French Andy Carroll

Both are good players, Soldado the better of the 2 and like you said I find it strange Arsene wouldn't have wanted him. He's no worse than Higuain.

Firstly, to understand why there is a dire need for a striker at Arsenal, you do have to watch Giroud.

I think a lot of people assume he is this big target man who is brilliant at holding up the ball and bringing others into the game etc. Actually this is the weaker part of his game, he really needs to work on it.

Secondly, his goal record was 11 in 34 starts in the league last year. Hardly world beating, and about half of these goals came when we were cruising and in easy games i.e. 7-3 to newcastle, 5-1 west ham made up 4 of the goals!

Soldado is without a doubt, twice the player Giroud is.

Weren't Arsenal fans giving loads of shít last season?
Yeah... He must be better

Arsenal always over exaggerate all their players. It's what they do

Soldado and Giroud are too similar to play in the same team. Soldado probably is better but let's see how they do this season before judging.

I actually think Giroud will score plenty if given proper service.

I think giroud is a great option on the bench with 20 minutes to go but as a lone striker he will never get to return that will get us challenging for the title .

Yea, Giroud is pretty lethal when you're 3 up at home! I think you need a Benzema/Rooney to keep your champions league place this year, as for the first time in a while we have a top striker

Exactly my thoughts. Excellent "plan b" option.

I like Giroud but I will be honest and say Soldado looks better, I think he will have a good season. I would have put him in my fantasy team if I didn't already have RvP and Benteke

I rate Giroud higher than most Arsenal fans.

I think we have to appreciate that it was his first season in the league, trying to fill the void left by arguably the best striker in the country right now.

He's very good in the air, has a great work-rate, and his one and two touch play is very good.
One of the problems, IMO, is that he doesn't get a whole lot of support up-front.

With Mertesacker in the side, we play with quite a deep defensive line, which stretches our play and pulls the midfielders further away from the front-man.

Giroud spends much of his time ploughing a lone furrow up top, with balls generally hit long to him to relieve pressure when we're pegged back, and him left to fend off 2-3 opposition defenders whilst the rest of the team gets up in support.

He's not got a lot of pace, so he's never going to stretch the defence, so I feel it's important we look to get more support to him if we are to see the best of him.

I do believe we should look to get a new striker in, but I think most Arsenal fans are a little harsh with their criticism of the French international.

Regarding Soldado, I think he will do very well at Tottenham, but I don't think it's that strange Wenger didn't go for him.
He's 28 years old and cost around £26million. As I say, I think he will do well, but that's quite a lot for someone of his age, and I doubt he has the marketability that someone like Suarez would have had.

This is the part I disagree with. He's not great in the air, he's quite weak and can't seem to get defenders away from him.

Work rate? Average. Chases about a bit, nothing special.

His one touch/ two touch play is not great. He tries so many little flicks when there is no need to. It's like he's scared to have the ball at his feet.

The biggest thing for me, is his lack of movement. How many times do we see Rosicky/Cazorla/Wilshere and co move the ball very sharply to the edge of the oppositions area, only to have Giroud standing and having a chat with the opposition CB?

Nothing ability wise, but we need a mobile striker will create space for himself, and his team mates, by dragging defenders about ala RVP.

But not more than our new signing Benzema, can't wait to see him line up. Already bought my shirt with his name on.

This is what Soldado does very well but the ball invariably lands to that fool Jonas who proceeds to fluff it.
